SAINTS AT THE SUMMIT

27/Aug/2013

The top three are all new entries this week with ‘Saints Row IV’ landing at No1, followed by ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist’ at No2 and ‘Disney Infinity’ at No3.

‘Saints Row IV’ is the 4th biggest launch of the year so far (behind Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us). It fails to outperform the debut of predecessor ‘Saints Row: The Third’, but is still the second best launch for the controversial series. Taken over from THQ by Deep Silver/Koch, it is the ambitious publisher’s third different title to reach No1 in the All Formats chart this year (the others being Dead Island Riptide and Metro Last Light). This is a feat only matched by EA. Sales were split 69% on Xbox 360 and 31% on PS3. The highly anticipated ‘Disney Infinity’ opens strongly, selling 3.6 times more starter pack units at launch than the original Skylanders. It performed best on Xbox 360 with a 43% share, then PS3 at 22%, Wii 21%, Wii U 10% and 3DS 4%.

Last week’s No1, ‘Payday 2’ (-76%) tumbles to No18 while the rest of the Top 10 mostly shuffles amongst themselves. ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (+3%), ‘Black Ops II’ (-17%), ‘FIFA 13’ (-14%) and ‘Animal Crossing: New Leaf’ (-9%) all drop two places to No’s 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively. ‘Lego Batman 2’ (+1%) is a non-mover at No8 ahead of ‘The Last of Us’ (-9%) at No9. 2K Games/Take 2 enter the chart at No10 with ‘The Bureau: Xcom Declassified’ and there is also a new face at No22; the Wii U exclusive ‘The Wonderful 101’.

Nice to see some new releases at last. Not suprised that Saints Row IV launched at no. 1

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

Sounds like a decent opening for Disney Infinity if it's selling more starter packs than Skylanders at this stage. Decent percentage of sales of Wii-U, too.

Massive drop for Payday 2 which isn't great. XCOM a bit of a bomba, too.

And not too hot an opening for Wonderful 101, although not terrible either. Could move a couple of thousand units lifetime here. And hey, at least it opened higher than the other two Wii-U games for the week (Disney Infinity & Splinter Cell, which didn't show up in the top 40 by the looks of things).

When the Guardian releases the top 20 for the week, it should give us a sales breakdown of the multi-plats.

W101 actually charted? o_O

Damn that's a really, really low opening for The Bureau: Xcom Declassified. Wonderful 101 is not surprising. Big drop from Payday 2, bummer :-/

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

TW101 doesn't bomba too hard I suppose. The Bureau did though. I didn't even know it was releasing this week, has it been reviewed by like... anybody?

I find the lack of Tales of Xillia disturbing.

Looking at this, sales for TW101 are probably around 2,000-3,000 units.

Xcom bombed and while while splinter cell seems to have a decent opening, i don't think it'll meet ubis expectations and might be the last we'll see of the series for a while.

W101 could have bombed harder. And encoraging stuff from Disney Infinity as well.

Would like to see the breakdown of Splinter Cell sales. I'd be surprised if the U made up more than 5%.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

WiiU has 2 OMEGA-bombs this week. Yay!
