Forums - Gaming - Capcom's CEO tries to explain why Monster Hunter 4 is not on Vita

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/08/23/capcom-says-currently-no-plans-for-monster-hunter-4-on-playstation-vita/

As i said in the title, he 'tries'

According to him (unless mistranslated), there is a limit on how long something can be developed on the 'same hardware'. I dont understand this at all.

Just because MH was on PS2 and PSP, it doesnt mean it cant be on the PS3 and Vita. Its the most stupid theory I have ever heard in my life.

Anyway, if he was right, maybe he can explain why there are like 5 versions of street fighter on PS3 but not a single one on vita.

Does this mean resident evil and devil may cry wont show on PS4 because the previous PS's have had plenty of those games?

Ofcourse, we all know the reason why PSP's most successful game isnt on the Vita, but I dont want to risk getting banned so I wont say it, but it really is obvious, unless you think Capcom are happy to lose $$$$$$.

i think  you can say that the Vita is underperforming... no worries for a ban..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

why you said they are happy to lose money?

If i read it wrong my bad but if i think i kno wat your saying then they want to make the userbase only for 3ds this gen cuz its the best handheld to make money on, the sales of MH3G Were way over at their expectations was! Now its a 12mil+ user base vs less than 2mil user base. Also its cheaper for them to make the game with 3DS then Vita. If it would of sold on vita, it would help tremendously but capcom concerns are not on helping sony make money but their own hence why 3DS>>>>>Vita. If sold on vita it wouldn't do more than 2mil, but with 3DS 3.5mil+ and saves much more money upon making the game!

Translation:

"There’s a limit to how long something can be continuously developed on the same hardware" - We can't make Monster Hunter for the PSP forever.

"Games have ideal release periods, which also determine when their development begins. This resulted in our judgment of seeing the 3DS as the most desirable [platform for Monster Hunter 4]" - We thought we can make more money on 3DS.

"Vita's microscopic install base"

Wich would turn gigantic with a Monster Hunter game.

Exactly. The vita version would outsell the 3ds version despite its 'microscopic install base'

I got the impression more that by "it was required for us to switch platforms," he was referring to moving away from the PSP specifically, not the Playstation brand in general. His next statement essentially boils down to, "We looked at the options for MH4, and decided that the 3DS was the best bet."

And I know what you think the real reason MH4 is on 3DS is, and I still don't buy it.

If Nintendo was in the habit of "actively procuring" third-party support in that fashion, why don't they have any?

lmao, no it wouldn't. It be better on it, but in sales no, just no.

When Monster Hunter 4 was announced for the 3DS, the Vita wasn't even out, so Vita's install base isn't the reason. Nintendo paid for Monster Hunter. That's why Monster Hunter 4 isn't on the Vita and won't be until sometime after the 3DS release if at all.

If Capcom wasn't paid off for those games to become Nintendo exclusive, then it's a pretty big coincidence Monster Hunter 3 for the 3DS and Wii U, as well as Monster Hunter 4 were all announced at the same time. TGS 2011.

but since when do companies like capcom limit their biggest franchises to 1 platform?

and ok, lets say they focused on the 3DS, it still doesnt explain why they are not investing in a port for the vita. There is no doubt that they would make more money on it than the majority of their other projects.
