Forums - Nintendo - W101 is going to be a gargantuan flop

Tagged games:

Maybe a commercial failure, but as a game its fresh, vibrant and completely different to anything ive ever played. Im for one am glad i own a Wii U and this is an exclusive to us. I would gladly choose this over any bland military shooters or sandbox games that dominate the industry.

Do yah think it will sell more then the original? just wondering

It won't outsell the original across both PS3 and 360, (1.94m) but it has a shot at outselling the 360 version. (860k)

Yeah Im thinking it could do around a million, only thing is im not sure its a game made for the Nintendo audience, seems like Nintendo are hoping for this game to bring over some of the Ps xbox crowd. Maybe they should put the main character in SSB for some advertising.

Don't underestimate the Nintendo audience's willingness to buy M-rated games.

Resident Evil 4 sold 1.7m on Gamecube, 2.2m on Wii. COD World at War, Modern Warfare, and Black Ops cleared a million each on Wii, and COD3 passed 2m.

At least I hope all the flopness of this game stay in this thread and don't spread to others derailing the disscussion.

Now im starting to Wonder if the same will happen to Bayonetta 2?

No.

Bayonetta is a known IP, doesn't have a confused target audience like W101, and will likely get better reviews.

Even if they repeat their stupidity of shipping 30k copies for Japan and releasing it in the US the same week as COD Black Ops 3 or something, it's almost guaranteed to do better than W101. It probably won't be a multi-million seller, but it won't be a flop to this absurd degree.

Eh, a second game releasing on a platform to which most of the users haven't even touched the first one, sounds like a recipe for disaster.

It certainly won't bomb like W101 is going to, but I don't think that it will sell at large volumes as some would have your beleive. It should do around 400k..  500k tops. Pikmin 3 is a well established franchise and is currently tracking at 350k on VGChartz (10th Aug 2013).

well, the fact the game sells or not wont change my purchase and my enjoyment with the game

That's the spirit. I too have supported and enjoyed many games that flopped commercially.

I'm not relishing W101 flopping, for the record, in case this came across as me bashing. I was simply being darkly humourous in the OP, I favour that over just being gloomy.

People don't only buy a game if they have played its predecessor. Many Wii U gamers who didn't play Bayo 1 will embrace its successor nonetheless.

And Pikmin 3 isn't a good example to prove your point; its 350k so far are from just 1 week in NA, 3 in Europe, and 5 in Japan. It will most likely pass a million lifetime.

Maybe Nintendo/ Platinum have realistic expectations of this game, and how they expect it to sell... ie- it doesnt have to sell over a million to be considered a success. Maybe they will consider 200k to be a success, i seem to remember Suda saying No more heroes was their most commercially successful game ever, and that did around 500k. Also High Voltage were doing high fives for Conduit sales, again a franchise that did just over 500k lifetime.
Mr internet forum man- would see sales of less than a million and automatically assume flop, without looking at the bigger picture. I could be completely wrong of course lol.

"we want new IPs"

Actions speak louder than words.

Gamers always say they want new IPs, then don't actually buy them.

That's the sad truth for most cases.

it didnt even chart on COMG sales either.

a sourceless rumour saying only 30k copies were shipped to japan doesn't qualify as true.

europe coment is an exaggeration.

the game is wii u only, being released first on europe and japan won't affect US sales. GTA5 release date is unrelated.

Do you think it will sell more than 30k first week?

Im thinking 100-120k LTD in Japan

I certainly don't believe the shipments were only 30k, it makes no sense and there's no source.

I take back that 100-120k LTD in Japan.

I'm thinking about 60-80k MAX LTD in Japan now. If its bundled later on then disregard this number.
