Rare May Return To Banjo, Perfect Dark, Viva Pinata, And/Or Other IP

Speaking with OXM at Gamescom, Rare’s Simon Woodroffe hinted that they may return to older IP after the release of Kinect Sports Rivals next spring.

“When we launched Kinect obviously there was a big focus on ‘everything must be Kinect. Now it’s in the box, use it where it make sense, don’t where it doesn’t. It can be used in some really – not gimmicky ways, which is what I think you’ll see a fair amount of – but ways that actually really enhance the game. We’ve got some ideas for how to use it in the right way.”

Which might even be in a new Perfect Dark “Maybe! We’ve got an idea for that. It would be controller plus Kinect. We’ve got ideas for most older Rare IP, you won’t be surprised to hear. There’s quite a lot of desire to do that, and Viva Pinata, Conker… Banjo’s very popular internally, a lot of people want to do stuff with Banjo.

This news makes this Rare fan very, very happy and excited! Now I’m anticipating Rivals’ release even more so that we can finally see a return an older IP (platforming Banjo-Kazooie, please?). This part I also find particularly interesting.  Sounds like MSFT has told developers to only use Kinect when it makes sense and in non gimmicky way.

Now it’s in the box, use it where it make sense, don’t where it doesn’t. It can be used in some really – not gimmicky ways, which is what I think you’ll see a fair amount of – but ways that actually really enhance the game

Yeah I thought that.

 

This time round instead of Kinect + 360 + a side of smartglass.

It feels like Xbox One. Kinect, smartglass and all its features are Xbox One. Not Xbox One and then it can also have the option to do this. 

Really exciting possibilities this gen for  the One. If the reports of Kinect Sports Rivals are anything to go by, Kinect 2.0 is awesome, accurate, has a huge  feature set and 10x power of 360 Kinect. 

Xbox One is an awesome device.

That thread doesnt even really say what was actually said by Rare. Leaving out the article and only adding a link makes it even worst.

I see you even commented in that thread explaining how the title does not justify the actual statement by rare. 

Actually inncluding what they said is also nullifying the hit and run posts that you was seeing in that thread.
