i don't recall those claims every gen. regardless, ps360 set the standard in a way that there will never be any big graphical jump anymore.

Until the 4k becomes the standard, i think they will

If 4K become the new standard, I don't want to pay over 10 or 5k for a 4K TV. If 4K TV cost that much, think how much it might cost to direct a movie in 4K :o

Do you really believe in what you wrote? I mean, do you really think the price will not come down over time?
"For example, in the fourth quarter of 2004, the average 42-inch high-definition plasma TV cost $4,446"
And yet here we are, with almost everybody having an HDTV.
Anyway, answering the OP, considering how bad they are right now (consoles), I'd be sad if there wasn't a big leap.

Yes, I believe in what I said. Of coarse 4K will be the norm one day, I feel it won't be as soon as the 720 and 1080p TVs.

Well considering the prices of 1080p tv's these days, 4k tv's will cost about the same in 7-10 years, probably just in time when the next gen consoles arrive.

still, they won't be standard any time soon. and with consoles barely rendering games at native 1080p, imagine what will take to render 4x that resolution.
In my opinion so far only The Division, Ryse and MGS5 look next gen. The rest look a lot like current gen graphics, only in 1080p.

No they didn't.
Read up on some old threads if you want. Here's the 360 reveal. Most people thought the graphics sucked. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46948
Also people talked about diminishing returns, a lot.
Personally I doubt I'll see much of a difference. People are already raving about Killzone and Ryse and stuff but they look about the same as the best of 7th gen to me.
I'm sure the graphically low-end games from the past gen like Mass Effect and The Elder Scrolls will see a major improvement, though.
