Forums - Gaming Discussion - AMD: PS4 performance advantage over XB1 bigger than many expect thanks to hUMA

pretty much all from a off the cuff Pun, that he stated in an interview @ Gamescom

AMD's Senior Product Marketing Manager Marc Diana said that the PS4 had shipped with a sense of Huma [Heterogeneous Uniform Memory Access] from AMD.

It is true but nothing new or that will change anything from what you already know.

maybe someone who speaks german can translate better but google translate: AMD also left open during a telephone conversation that the assertions by Marc Diana correspond to the truth or not. Particularly valued the company primarily on the statement that the company may not make statements about the products of its customers - that is also not Microsoft's Xbox or Sony's Playstation 4 One.

Not to mention, AMD just retracted their statements for being inaccurate.

But the Sony fanboys will just say MS paid them since they say that to anything.

Amd did not retract it, read it again.

"During a recent Gamescom 2013 interview, an AMD spokesperson made inaccurate statements regarding the details of our semi-custom APU architectures.

"AMD will not comment on the Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PS4 memory architectures and will not speak for Microsoft, Sony or other AMD customers."

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/2052820/ps4_vs_xbox_one_amd_retracts_performance_comparison.html

No where does that say that the PS4 does not infact contain hUMA, if So AMD would have come out and stated that it does not, but AMD's  own  :

AMD's Senior Product Marketing Manager Marc Diana said that the PS4 had shipped with a sense of Huma [Heterogeneous Uniform Memory Access] from AMD.

what pretty much was off the cuff comment an explination in an interview was now turned into a online pissing contest.

Example: why would a XBOXONE developer on regedit, even comment about the xboxone having Huma like functionality if both the xboxone and PS4 did not have the technology by AMD's very own retraction? when there was infact no retraction @ all. So would the XBOXONE have Huma like functionality now, but not the PS4?

The AMD statement is true... PS4 has hUMA and Xbone not... AMD now is just saying they will never comments about the APUs again due MS got mad.

Yesterday, we covered how the PlayStation 4, along with unified memory access, would use hUMA which would give it a leg-up in terms of performance. It was noted that because the Xbox One didn’t have hUMA, it would see lesser performance.

However, according to a confirmed Xbox One dev on Reddit- who cited an Ars Technica article which defined hUMA as a coherent cache system and that the “CPU and GPU will always see a consistent view of data in memory. If one processor makes a change then the other processor will see that changed data, even if the old value was being cached” – the Xbox One will feature something similar to hUMA.

On receiving his first alpha kit, he look at internal white papers that and confirmed that the Xbox One implements memory in exactly the same way. He also noted that he couldn’t find a source where AMD’s senior product marketing manager Marc Diana stated that the PS4 would have hUMA and the Xbox One wouldn’t.

Considering that the technology powering both the Xbox One and PS4, at least in terms of CPU and GPU tech, is more or less the same, it would be odd if one sported such an essential feature and the other didn’t.

This Reedit dev was the same that asked what is "hUMA"?
