Two prediction threads in 24 hours which sees the PS4 potentially need better than Wii launch sales for the prediction to come true.

Yeah, you guys are getting carried away.

December WiiU launch sales in the US were lower than that of the PS3 in December of 2006. while the launch week was strong, the December sales were bad.

Edit : also, i did not predict it will, i am just asking to see what the forum thinks

I'm not sure right now how they will do in early 2014.  Do you think they will do substantially better than Wii U, and if so, why?

i dont think they will sell out. by they will do much better than the WiiU (atleast PS4). why? it will have more games than the WiiU did this year. next gen exclusives such as Witcher and thief (also on pc) but they will help push sales. then we have exclusives from both Sony and MS and its very obvious both are much more prepared than nintendo was with the WiiU. add to that much more third party games that will launch on the systems, games like destiny, even though cross gen it will still help push sales of these tittles. add to that that these consoles provide a great leap over what is currently on the market, unlike the WiiU which provides same hourse power but uses the tablet controller as a selling point (which didnt work).

im not saying the PS4/X1 will sell millions upon millions monthly in 2014. im saying there is no way in hell they would ship just 10K in europe in a certain querter like the WiiU did

They'll definitely have more consistant support, and PS360 will be more dead.  They'll also have higher price tags.  I'm curious to see the effect of cross-gen titles.  So far most of the titles being released on PS4 and XBO are either available on PS360 and Wii U or are niche/modest franchises.  Especially for the $500 XBO, that's a hard sell.  PS4 seems a little better off.

After the edition of the OP it is clearly reachable, WiiU will struggle this holiday especially if the rumors are right and PS4 launches in October because it is only one million ahead.

@OP:

Not easy, 8th gen is cooler, but 7.5th gen is cheaper.

Sony's launch lineup is fine. They will sell very well. They will have a healthy dose of first, second and third party. Sony hasn't really shown anything yet. Gamescom and Tokyo Gameshow are right around the corner.

Will that lineup bring people to the PS4 though? If GTA5 was coming with exclusive content on the system then I could some hardware being pushed more, but as of now, no title has that "killer app" feel to it.

Its about a balance of first, second and third party that gets people going. The people who buy the most solid items buy third party annualized items but they tend to be a small chunk of games out of a greater whole. I was watching a video on an Xbox page IOutsiders Xbox or something) and they said the chances of a next gen version Grand Theft Auto is high based on the scale of Grand Theft Auto's planning which mostly looked like they were fromt he PC, not from consoles. They were hinting we might get something at Gamescom, but I don't know if I completely believe it yet. We'll see at Gamescom. One day left.

Rockstar would be stupid not to release it on next gen platforms (and PC). Yeah, this next gen is going to be crazy that is for sure!

bumping this thread after the 1M PS4 pre-orders

The PS4 would have to be on the Wii level of popularity at launch to do that. Not to mention Wii U would have to be selling around the same as it is now which is shocking considering how well it sold at launch with those weak titles. I will say hell no. People are getting very carried away by the hype.

PS4 needs to four million sales in two months to surpass the Wii U this year while the Wii U continues to sell like it has been. The Wii U will probably keep selling as badly as it has been, but I'm going to say the PS4 won't sell more than three million by the end of the year.

Just a generalization.  What does increase in sales, I don't think it's going to make much of a difference.  Like Pikmin 3.  Sales increased 10,000 for two weeks.  Wii U already had one version selling at $300, so a $50 price drop down to $300 of the deluxe version with a digital version of an HD rerelease isn't going to move too many systems.

The PS3 and 360 are still out there, and they're still $200, so who's really going to buy the Wii U other than Nintendo fans?  If they already own a PS360, they would probably hold out for the PS4/Xbox One.  PS4 is only $100 more for actual next gen.
