Forums - Microsoft - What if.... Microsoft dropped their price at launch to $399?

After Microsoft has done so many 180's in the last 2 months, I am not sure anyone really knows which direction they face now.  Let's say they did one more that would actually bring some real value to the gamers right away.  If they dropped their price on the XBOX ONE on launch day to $399 would you change your mind if you hadn't planned to get one before?  It would still come with Kinect 2.0(not even required to plug in any longer) and everything as seen in the "unboxing" video by Major Nelson.

A poll on this is too easy, I am more interested  to hear from people who really had decided to pass on the XBOX ONE after the reveal at E3 .  After all the changes(180's) and this IMAGINARY price drop.  What would still hold you back?

Ill still get a PS4 first, but I'd get a X1 a lot sooner than I would have before.

2014 will be the year for new skus and price cuts.

Right now X1 preorders are for the $500 model and MS would be stupid to announce a $399 price and watch those preorders switch to that sku.

Give the kinect SKU a head start over the kinectless one, and cash in on the early adopters.....not that cashing in implies something negative as I think kinect is worth the extra $100.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Well, since I already preordered a ps4 then I'll prob just go with that lol. The xbox one would be more tempting to get after the ps4 though. I'll prob wait out until the xbox one get a real price drop to like $300-400 and let the exclusive library build up a bit. The x1 and ps4 pretty much have all the same 3rd parties anyways.

Like I said in the OP, the sku wouldn't change.  It would still come with Kinect 2.0 in the box.

I'd sell my Xbox 360 and all my games just to get one. Just kidding I'd probably still wait until 2014.

Would probably noy buy it anyway. I will havi a hard time as it is with PS4 and WiiU. Will never have the time to play all the games I want :(

Well naturally it would sell a lot more while at the same time losing Microsoft huge amounts of money.

It's pointless from business point of view. Even if it was $600 at launch. It would have sold out most of its units. They are trying to find it hard to meet demand at the current price. So why should they lose $100 more on each console sold just to appease the forum dwellers.

Price cut should happen when and if the sales drop. It would be better for them to save that for next fall along with the launch of Halo 5.

Just my 25 cents.

For what it is offering right now and Xbox track record for my tastes in gaming? I doubt $299 would convince me to buy one. Even if I ignore how utterly insulting and incompetent they have been in 2013 they still have not shown in four years to make exclusive games I want. Compared to other platforms that have had dozens of titles. I have zero confidence in Microsoft as of now, I would say they'd have to work very hard to win me back by 2015/2016.

All that said, for the overall market it would definitely have an impact though as $100 more right now is a deterrent for many.
