Which do you prefer?

First Person Shooters (FPS) 17 15.89%

3rd Person Shooters (TPS) 78 72.90%

Can't choose really. I j... 10 9.35%

Neither 2 1.87%

Total:107

I prefer TPS's because they usually offer other gameplay mechanics than shooting. The most common one is platforming, which I enjoy if well made. Cover systems also seem to be better in TPS's. I also like to see my characters and the fact that in 1st person you seem to walk on rails and you can't see your own body breaks the immersion.

Surprisingly TPS's are winning by a large margin, considering that FPS's are the most popular genre since years.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

TPS as have better feel of what is going on. FPS disorient me and can even give me motion sickness. Very rare for an FPS to overcome that for me (ex: Portal, Bioshock, Mirror's Edge)

A fast paced FPS like Quake III or UT99/UT2k4 is way better than any TPS. I do enjoy Vanquish and Gears of War (even if this one is slow).

TPS mechanics in Uncharted are really bad, but the characters and story are great so I played them.

Also, TPS rely on cover too much (except Vanquish) for me. I really like to strafe and dodge shit while blowing everything.

Fps, especially for multiplayer games. Tps is fine too, but prefer fps more.

I like both equally.

Depends on the atmosphere of the game. For survival horror 3rd person, but If I'm just playing something fun, or online than first person.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

This, TPS have more diversity than FPS. Even Metroid Prime is considered FPAdventure because it's not all about shooting >.> .

And also because with some FPS I get sick (God, Quake was a pain to play!).

Please excuse my bad English.

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

It all depends on the gameplay, story, and how fun the MP is.

I like the immersion allowed in FPS that really, imho can't be touched by other genres.

On a side note, seeing the poll, that 72 % choose TPS over 16 % of FPS fans is rather surprising. Especially when you look at all the heavy hitters. Yes, Uncharted and Gears did well, but CoD, Halo, Battlefield, Even Skyrim (if you count the magic projectiles as shooting hehe) sold gangbusters.

Guess the VG community preferences aren't aligned with the mainstream.

Such a tough choice, I like so many games from thw two genres, but TPS might just edge it. This gen had had a bit more quality TPS games than it had had FPS( for me odcourse).
