Forums - Gaming - Why Are You Mad At Gamestop? You Should Be Mad At Nintendo.

Xenoblade was my favorite game on the Wii. I really hope they reprint it.

So... fans should be mad at Nintendo for producing more copies, thus giving them what they want...? I'm confused.

Nintendo didn't make the copies, Gamestop did.

Hmm... so it was Reggie's call?

Almost certainly, but he publicly denied it and shifted the blame to Japan, saying that they are calling the shots. That doesn't make sense though, because you don't greenlight three games for the less significant European market and then refuse to bring the games to a bigger market. Not to mention that the European versions contain translations into five different languages, three of which (English, French, Spanish) cover the North American continent.

Additionally, previously Reggie took the responsibility for not bringing Disaster: Day of Crisis to America on him, saying that the quality of the voice acting isn't up to snuff and doing additional work on the game wasn't worth the effort due to expected lack of demand. Since Disaster: DoC had only received mixed reviews and wasn't selling well in either Japan or Europe, nobody really complained. Operation Rainfall was a different story though, it caused some serious backlash, hence why Reggie tried to shift responsibility away from him.

That's why Reggie is a douchebag.

Well, to me that sounds like speculation.  While it certainly looks like Reggie is the cause for this, I'm not sure if it's true.  So I'll remain neutral on the issue.

Eh, I actually put the blame on the previous CEO of the US branch, Tatsumi Kimishima.

He came in as CEO for North America around 2006 which is roughly the time things took a noticeable shift in philopshies of how Nintendo of America seemed to run. Fewer Western developed games were produced and over all noticeable changes that were sort of masked by the Wii's success and Reggie's rise as the public face. They say his reassignment was due to increasing synergy but I think they probably wanted him gone and forced Iwata to take the position as CEO of America as well because he couldn't put anyone else in the position that would follow his particular traits.

This is of course speculation but I find it hard to believe a business savy guy like Reggie would make the mistakes that Nintendo has made in recent years in regards to trying to reach US audiences.

Just answer this, what is stopping Nintendo from printing more copies?

Nothing...They still aren´t obligued to reprint it, it is unfortunate but people had their chance to buy it for 50$...that ship has sailed and GameStop took advantage of the situation !

They just don't want the money in a completely no-risk situation for them.

Wouldn't be surprised if these copies were made with Nintendo's permission though.

Nintendo didn't make the copies, Gamestop did.

... Eh? Gamestop actually manufactured brand-new Nintendo games...? How did that come about? Do they have factories? :s

Well, anyway, even if they did, I'm pretty sure they couldn't have done so without Nintendo's cooperation.

They payed a different company to produce the games, forgot the name of it.  Nintendo hasn't commented on the situaion so still have to see what their gonna do.

I see. Is any of that confirmed or just guesswork? 'Cos if true, that doesn't sound very legal to me, at all. Nor would Nintendo then receive any money from those sales, which Nintendo won't let slide, I'd think.

I'm not mad at anybody.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

I'm pretty sure Gamestop admitted to doing it, and that they were gonna do the Metroid Trilogy next.
