I can absolutely relate to this ! It is very unfortunate that some people weren´t aware of Xenoblade (and didn´t buy it because of this) and that it has become so rare and expensive. It would be fantastic if Nintendo would just start selling new Xenoblade copies through their own website.
What I disagree with is that Nintendo is to blame for the current situation and that Nintendo is somehow morally obligued to reprint the damn game to "listen to their fans" . (Not directed at you)
I think they should have quickly just bumped Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower to 1080p resolution on the Wii U with off-TV play and charged $39.99 a pop for them on the eShop during this drought.

that would be August 19th 2011 for EU :P
Again, I can understand that you are angry, but I really disagree with the notion that Nintendo should be blamed for the situation you Americans are in.
BUT:
Should they reprint it ? Yes ! (if there aren´t any contracts with Gamestop preventing it from happening, remember that GS gave 50$ trade in for Xenoblade)

Almost certainly, but he publicly denied it and shifted the blame to Japan, saying that they are calling the shots. That doesn't make sense though, because you don't greenlight three games for the less significant European market and then refuse to bring the games to a bigger market. Not to mention that the European versions contain translations into five different languages, three of which (English, French, Spanish) cover the North American continent. Additionally, previously Reggie took the responsibility for not bringing Disaster: Day of Crisis to America on him, saying that the quality of the voice acting isn't up to snuff and doing additional work on the game wasn't worth the effort due to expected lack of demand. Since Disaster: DoC had only received mixed reviews and wasn't selling well in either Japan or Europe, nobody really complained. Operation Rainfall was a different story though, it caused some serious backlash, hence why Reggie tried to shift responsibility away from him. That's why Reggie is a douchebag. |
Well, to me that sounds like speculation. While it certainly looks like Reggie is the cause for this, I'm not sure if it's true. So I'll remain neutral on the issue.
I think part of the problem was that Sin & Punishment flopped and so did Excitebots so NOA became more wary of releasing these games.
With Disaster: DoC I think the issue was Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in the Indian Ocean had just happened and the game probably wasn't a great idea for that time.

Even a player's choice collection on the Wii U would be good, maybe add a couple titles, the Wii U discs are pretty beefy so I'm sure they could do it.

| KingdomHeartsFan said: So let me get this straight. A game comes out with very limited supply and the price quickly escalates to $200+ and Nintendo ignores the outcry from the fans to print more copies, then Gamestop gives the fans what they want, more copies of the game and people get mad at Gamestop...what? This would have never happened if Nintendo actually listened to its fans, which they almost never do. Also the price of $90, I think its a little high tbh, but think about it, these are new copies of the game they just don't have the plastic on them. New copies are selling on ebay for double or triple the price that Gamestop is asking. All in all this only happend because Nintendo ignored the outcry from their fans, hell they still haven't commented on this because they probably don't want to bring attention to the fact that they neglected their fans so now someone else is giving them what they wanted. |
Quickly? everyone who wanted the game should have one by now. People just wanted to wait for a price drop and now they complain about the game selling for 200.
Some people bought 2, 5 , 10 copies of the game and sold them on ebay. Seriously if the game would have sold out everywhere on day 1 Nintendo would have made more.

Why is this news to everyone? This is how nintendo works because their games are nearly all high quality and their replayability is very high. If you want games in the bargin bin go get them but the best ones are full price and/or hard to come by and that's just how it works. PS. Still haven't gotten around to playing more than about an hour of the game because I don't have time for a big RPG at the moment (also have the Wii Fire Emblem to play as well) but still glad I picked it up. |
Earthbound was selling for $10 when SNES was around, and guess where I saw it last time I saw it retail? In the bargin bin.
A complete copy now sells for $400+, new is over $1,000.
Still, when was the last time Nintendo has made a high quality JRPG like this? All Nintendo JRPG's go up in value over time, and rarely sell for less then $50, Earthbound and Startropics are kinda oddballs (Startropics is worth very little). XenoBlade, Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG, Baten Kaitos, etc. I always get Nintendo JRPG's new because of this though.

I bought the game when it came out so I don't feel the need to be mad at anyone.
