I love it "its just a gimmick" riiiight enhances the visuals in a game and making the graphics better is a gimmick well I guess the ps4's video card to enhance the graphics over the wii u is just gimmick lol wow idiots (maybe I have a special 3ds or something but I have a good range for the sweet spot I can move it slighty and it doesn't bother it a bit) I say that because people will respond well you don't have to have a sweet spot with the ps4, well unless your withdrawing there is no reason why someone cant hold a 3ds in a sweet spot. Better graphics enhance gameplay that's not a gimmick. Now the cameras are a gimmick lol

Dang dude, you needs a chill pill!

Yes, unless my brother wants to watch me play.

of coarse! it's the sole reason i bought it at launch. i love crazy stuff like that.

Great thread, but that I don't have a 3DS, I can't comment about using it. I do think it's interesting how most people voting use it an like it. Then others who don't use it often or at all, think it is useless.

What they really mean is useless to them. It is an excellent example how too many of us gamers are to harsh when someone else likes something we do not.

Too many people enjoy the feature to really call it useless.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

I turn it on once in a while just to get that "ohh, it looks nice" effect, but I usually turn it off after like 2 or 3 seconds when my amazement passes by.

It's kind of funny, because 3D doesn't seem to be the selling point for the 3DS, so Nintendo's next generation handheld could be another DS-like system with a nice gimmick (4DS?) and it'll still sell like crazy.

why does everyone call the next one 4DS? lol

Yes I do. For the first hour with Ocarina 3D I thought it was weird and it was hard on my eyes. Didn't think I'd use it again. The next day I gave it another shot, and haven't had a problem since. I've played through pretty much the entirety of all my 3DS games (currently 18 retail) with the 3D on max settings, and prefer it that way. Once in a great while if I'm tired or if I'm worried about the battery running low then I'll turn it off, but that isn't very often. The only 2 games I don't use the 3D for are Art Academy and Brain Age, just because it's pointless and distracting when I'm trying to paint/draw or doing math problems frantically.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

All the time.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Wow a 3 way tie. I don't use 3d at all.

What's really impressive is how absolutely adamant some of the opinions are. The ability to turn the 3D down or off has been part of the system since day one for a reason. I've also heard optometrists saying Nintendo's fears that the 3D may cause eye damage are unfounded, so....

Really, I expect the proportion of people who use the 3D is probably higher than the number of people using the 3DS's cameras, so as far as a "gimmick" goes, the 3D is pretty successful. It just didn't turn out to be a system seller like Nintendo thought.

I used to not care for the 3D because most games just had really crappy 3D, but I did test the 3D just to see how it was with each game I played. Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate's 3D was jaw dropping so the second time I played through it, other than when underwater, I played with the 3D on.

SMT4 also has really good 3D, but the problem on the game is that you'll go back and forth to your menu, you'll sometimes look at the bottom screen to look at the map, etc. So games where you're frequently switching back and forth from top to bottom, you really don't want to use the 3D effect because it's disorienting and that's when it really hurts your eyes.

So, so far, Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate is the only one really worth using the effect. Everything else, even SMT4 with it's really good 3D effect, not worth it.

For a long time I never used it, but since swapping my original 3DS for an XL I now enjoy the 3D effect. Only on low-medium setting, though.
