Forums - Nintendo - Sonic can turn the WiiU around. Will Sonic help more than Mario?

What game do you think will sell more this holiday season?

Sonic lost worlds 29 17.90%

Super Mario 3D World 132 81.48%

Total:161

I am more excited about Sonic, but I have little doubt Mario will outsell it.

Is this a joke thread? Or something that you are actually considering could happen?

No one game is going to cause a turnaround, Sonic wont do it, Donkey Kong wont, 3D World wont, Mario Kart wont, Smash Bros wont. But the combined effort of all those titles releasing in a short amount of time could very well do the trick.

By this time next year we could be looking at a Wii U library of NSMBU, Nintendo Land, Pikmin 3, DKC Tropical Freeze, Mario 3D World, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Sonic Lost World, Sochi Olympics, Yarn Yoshi, Wonderful 101, Wind Waker HD, Lego City Undercover, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, X, SMTxFE, Bayonetta 2, ZombiU, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Scribblenauts Unlimited/Unmasked, Injustice, Resident Evil Revelations, Assasins Creed 3/4, Batman Arkham City/Origins, COD Black Ops 2/Ghosts, Skylanders Giants/Swap Force, Darksiders 2, Rayman Legends, Splinter Cell, Disney Infinity, Just Dance 4/5, NFS Most Wanted, Sonic All Stars Racing.

Thats 40 high quality games spanning multiple genres and a hell of a lineup for a console less than 2 years old.

Preach brother, preach!

It'll probably give Wii U a better boost than Pikmin did (there are probably more Sonic fans than Pikmin fans), but boost the hardware sales more than Mario? Lol, no. As much as I dislike SM3DW quite a bit, there's no way it's losing to Sonic.

To be fair, the question is whether Sonic will help Wii U more than Mario. But in a sense, you're right here about fully turning Wii U around.

Sonic wont help. It will be another good exclusive, but it wont help.

If only everyone could put asside their personal preferences and see things for what they are! Sonic Lost World could be GotY while 3D World is worst GotY, and it'd still sell more.

Why would you encourage such a speech when you demand a $100 price cut in spring 2014?

Because his post is the truth and it's what I've been saying! I don't see how that affects my wanting of a $100 price cut with MK8.

Possible, but brand name is more important than quality, in most cases.

For Mario, a 3D platformer in the series is, for many, an instant buy.

For Sonic, a 3D platformer in the series is, for many, an instant avoid.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

Well, he said that all those games could very well do the trick without a price cut; and you've been saying that the Wii U still needs a $100 price cut despite all those games. That's a meaningful difference.

What he meant by "do the trick" is up for interpretation, but seeing as he also expects a $100 drop with MK8 (or at the very least a $299 MK8 Bundle), I'd say he just meant the trick of pulling the Wii U out of the atrociously bad sales range, but not yet great or even good sales.
