Forums - Nintendo - Mr. Iwata comment on the idea of going multi-platform.

I wish Iwata would stop wasting his time answering stupid questions.

So, you're saying he should ignore all of the questions of videogame journalists?

No, this would be very rude, particularly for extremely polite people like the Japanese. But he could hire a double to impersonate him while he's working undisturbed and give them random answers!

Nintendo can't do any worse than the GameCube, right? That system barely scraped out of the generation with 22 million consoles lifetime. It served only the very hardcore of the Nintendo loyalists, with sequels to N64 games.

Surely GameCube was the low point, and I very much doubt that Wii U will come close to doing that poorly in the market when we look back at Wii U's performance in 2017.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

This is naive. It is pretty clear this is the generation that will be key to locking people into a particular ecosystem. Sony is going multiplatform with Gaikai, and MS looks to be doing the same from that leaked document (although they were too blunt and have been set back by the 180).

If you buy a game from Sony or MS you will be able to play it anywhere. This will be the final nail in the coffin for Nintendo's third party support. And this in turn will hurt their consoles.

Nintendo already has people locked into their particular ecosystem, and their own software is the key.

Keep banging that drum, Osc. Maybe one day you'll learn the rhythm.

Nintendo have locked people in? I guess that's why we are seeing Wii numbers for the Wii U.

Seriously though, why would you choose the Wii U version of a game if you can play the PS4 & X1 versions on multiple devices?

Why buy a console at all by that logic.

At least I was able to transfer all my Wii shop games from my Wii to Wii U day one with no extra charge.  Also, people don't buy Nintendo systems for third party games.  People buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games.

You totally missed the point there (see underlined, above). People who want Nintendo games know where to get them, and that is the ecosystem maintained BY Nintendo. If it was such a great idea for the company to abandon that, it would have happened already.

The president of the company has even explained that much.

Nahh, this will rumble on and on until they do it.

Here's an article I wrote for a spoof gaming website that never happened, intended to parody the mentality of these crazy talkers:

Nintendo Haters Declare Ultimatum: "It's Them Or Us"
Posted by Gnac on Sat 8th Oct 2011 at 19:50 in HAPPENINGS, NINTENDO, SOCIAL, FUD

After Twenty years of doomsaying, the internet has finally had enough of Nintendo running a profitable business and not being third-party already

A spirited group of individuals known as "F.U.N." (the acronym means "Fuck You, Nintendo") has clubbed together to complain extra-hard about anything Nintendo does, good or bad. The organisation believes that gaming should be a mature hobby for mature gamers such as themselves, that children should not play, and also no grannies because there is such a thing as a much-too-mature gamer.

We managed to get hold of the group's representative, McBastion Dreezil, long enough to squeeze these words from his throat:

Y'know, for too long Nintendo has been holding gaming back, constantly belittling our hobby by making games for little, crying babies. The industry should be allowed to grow with its gamers, offering only what they want, and not all this entry-level shit for people who only started gaming last week. Nintendo should have died when they made Mortal Kombat with green blood instead of red. Even though I hadn't been born yet, the thought of it still disgusts me.

The green blood issue has a lot to answer for, though. The disgust caused by the sight of clorophyll-rich bodily juices highlighted a need for game ratings to protect people from disturbing images, and prompted the creation of the ESRB, leading to the much-lauded "M" rating for "mature" games for mature people. In Europe, numerical age ratings are used, which leads some people to believe that you must be three years old to play certain titles.

The group will continue their tiresome onslaught of petulance until the company DISAPPEARS.

I don't understand what you are saying. You buy a console to play games in your living room. Do you not see the added value in also being able to play these games wherever you want? Valve do with Steam and Portal 2 on PS3, Sony do with Cross-Buy and Gaikai, MS do from their leaked document. Why doesn't anyone here?

Also, they only sell the consoles to sell the games. That's why they are sold at a loss. For Valve, selling all the games and taking a cut without having to make a loss on hardware is a pretty comfortable position.

I bolded the statement so you could understand.

Many multiplat games are going to be for PC, so if you are saying "why buy a Wii U version," That's as good as saying "why buy a PS4/XB1 version" when there's PC.  Because it implies the Wii U version will be the same or worse than the PS4/XB1 versions.  When there's going to be a multiplat game for all three next-gen consoles, you can bet the Wii U version will be different.  If it isn't, then the Wii U wouldn't be fulfilling its job as a different console.

Also, if you want to say "play games in your living room" then you don't understand that you could also play a PC in your living room.  The way you're making this argument is incomplete and makes little sense.  I also don't even see what your point is on your last paragraph, it has nothing to do with what I was saying.
