It apparently plays DS hombrew actually. And I have a flash cart and I use it to play homebrew. There are some fun homebrew apps for the DS actually.

I agree with you that homebrew apps can be fun but people like you who only use their cards for those apps (I hope) are in the minority: How many people do you know that just outright stopped buying DS games alltogether ? I can name 5 friends who had a DS and after they got their Flashcards, it was always " I just want to try it out first"" This doesn´t seem worth it" etc. excuse after excuse to justify their piray....so again: Homebrew itself is nice and dandy, but those Flashcards always open Pandora´s Box by allowing piracy sooner or later and the people who only use said Homebrew apps are in the small minority !

Doesn't matter. You can't knock the device. If a group finds functionality that is perfectly legal then it shows that the device isn't breaking the laws instead the users are. That's like condeming torrent programs just because a lot of people use them to pirate. I sometimes use my card whenever I can't bring my physical DS games with. I only own a few DS games so that's all I put on there and remove them when I have access to my carts. Pokemon White and a couple other games. Most of my games are 3DS carts I've purchased. I skipped a large chunk of the DS era and don't even know many games for the DS.

pirates is what push hardware sales up.

wow i have seen people mad about the fact nintendo is sueing them -_-

Nintendo should sue them too.

it is not actually cause of piracy but cause of region lock and homebrew is why people are mad

Nope, it's piracy for 90% of those people. People who buy japanese games and use hacked consoles exclusively to play those games are an urban legend.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I got a modchip for my PS1/2 to remove their region locks so I can play Japanese imports... just sayin'. Hacked my PAL Wii for the same reason as well... (well, US imports in Wii's case).

DS was the most sold handeld in history.
It had the best SW/HW ratio of handeld's history.

And yet they say piracy killed the software sales on DS ?

A lot of people bought the console because it was easily hackable, and then bought the games that deserved their money. It made one of the most successful console ever.

Piracy is not loosing money. You don't pirate a game you want to buy, you pirate to try games you would not have bought otherwise.

It's been proven again and again.

Lets hope someone don't tell the hacking group Anonymous about this.

Piracy is essentially stealing. Don't you think that is wrong? I know many individual that bought a psp and ds but never bought a single retail game for these consoles. In my opinion piracy is one of the reason the psp is doing reasonable right now.

not really because those people would never buy the hardware in the first place, so they wouldn't even buy the software.

Some does that. Not the majority.

For example, I'm a pirate. Mostly on PC and handelds. That said, I have an average of 35 games per console, all at full price on retail (I never buy used, I'm a collector).

The average SW/HW on home consoles is 9 games per console, 5 on handelds. I don't think that I'm killing the economy. (Games are 33% of my extra money, I can't do better, BTW)

It was proven multiple times that if you consume a lot of cultural products, it will make you buy  even more cultural products.

Look at the movie and music industry. Since the "Big piracy problem", it grew even stronger.

Example :

Theaters tickets revenue in 2000 : 7.48 bn$

2012 : 10.71 bn$

People tought VHS recording would kill the movie industry, that radio would kill music industry, that compact cassette would kill music too.

Let's remember that piracy for video games took another step on PSX. Look at the industry now, does it seems destroyed ?
