I didn't like it at first but just because I had just purchased my GBA and didn't want focus to shift to ds so soon.

It's a general rule that the gaming population's response to Nintendo consoles is always the opposite of actual market reaction. "Gamers" hated the DS and Wii and both systems flew of the shelves. People were totally excited for the 3DS and look how that turned out - they had to cut the price drastically and shift resources towards the handheld to increase sales. Reaction to the Wii U was positive as well (much better than gamers reacted to the Wii!) and... well we know the rest of the story. The Gamecube and N64 were also positively received. The Gamecube got lots and lots of doom but that was due to the "console war". In general the Gamecube was seen in a positive light by core gamers.
So next time gamers go wild over a Nintendo console - be alarmed and sell you stock haha.

if the 3DS picked up steam drastically when the Doom and Gloom articles became common, does that mean that the WiiU will pick up steam soon as well? :P

My prediction is that this will flop like Bob Dole's flaccid penis.
boy he could not be more wrong. we must all remember though this was at Sony's prime. So its understandable as to why the PSP love outways Nintendos

if it doesent this holiday and next year i would be scared. i mean they are releasing DK, Mario and Mario Kart. Thats like 3 of there biggest franchises
It was the complete opposite for me. I was crazy about the DS when it launched. My Dad kept trying to push me towards buying a PSP saying I'd prefer the games on it but I wasn't having any of it.

I'm sure they'll pick up though, heck, over 5 million Gamecubes were sold just because of Super Smash Brose Melee, so I'm not worried
Will be exactly the same case when we look back at the current Wii U threads in 2 years time.
Some (most) gamers are too quick to call a failure and doom and gloom.
