I dont think Wii U will get a true price cut this year but I could def see some better value bundles.

Basic-keep heavily discounting just to get rid of them

Deluxe-$299

Deluxe w/Pikmin 3+extra Wiimote-$349

Exaclty. All they can do right now is have value bundles. And since Wii-Remotes aren't that much to manufacture anymore, I guess you're right that they can bundle one or two in each console and still maintain a 349.99$ price tag.

Also with the holidays coming up there will for sure be some nice discounts and bundles going on. I think in April we could see a $299 Mario Kart bundle which in my opinion is a great value.

I asked Pezus this but I actually wanna ask everyone who's saying pricecut 2013. When do yal expect the price cut to happen?

We just got a Nintendo Direct today. I'd think if they were gonna price cut this month, it'd have been announced in that ND. Since it wasn't, I think it safe to assume August is out of the question. Having a price cut during November n December just wouldn't make sense since the holidays will boost sales anyway. So that leaves us with October and September. Quite a narrow window and October is still pretty close to the holidays. Plus Nintendo's last price cut was announced in July and took effect in August.

In 2014...or until they start getting close to or actually receiving profit from each unit sold, they won't drop the price anytime soon. What they could do is drop the Basic set all together and just sell the 32 GB only with black and white (despite that still being small, it's flash memory, much more expensive than GB of a hard drive, so don't expect huge increases anytime soon in size). Since they want "Nintendo-like" profits, they can't drop the price.

Along with that, they should maybe bundle in different games instead of Nintendo Land. I think a Wii U Deluxe / Premium with a game like Super Mario 3D World or Donkey Kong Country - TF would sell like crazy. Of course, they could also sell a 32GB Wii U without a game in it to look appealing at $299 compared to the competition. I do wonder though if selling one without actual storage space inside the console (except some memory for the OS and updates) and instead offer an SD card of 32GB or 64GB, would reduce the price. Because I'm sure that a 32GB SD card is cheaper than actual flash memory like they have in the conosle itself. They would reduce the price there, and not really change anything, aside from the fact that there's an SD Card in the console instead of the internal flash.

I was asking people who were saying 2013 lol! I agree that bundles, ditching the basic n such are the way to go though!

Only thing is I doubt they'll replace Nintendo Land if only because it'd make people think they're giving up on the gamepad.

I can't say I really care for Nintendo to drop the price (I more or less want a Bayonetta 2 bundle with a black or blue Wii U to go with it).  But I'll reckon if Nintendo does feel the need to drop the price (Which they really do need to do) then it'll happen after the holidays since when they'd cut the price there'd be black friday sales so it'll be pointless to do during/before.

Plus there's already so many retailer cuts going on, especially in Europe from what I've heard. I wonder if a $50 cut would even match what some are selling them for. All the more reason for them to wait so they'll be in a better position to do a $100 drop!

Good point. The wii u launched at £249 and £299 for the basic and premium in the UK.

In may Asda sold all they had for £149 and £199 respectively. They sold out and Asda stopped stocking them. Go to Asda and they are listed as "sold out".

I think £199 or euros is the sweet spot for the console. The word is out that it is vastly underpowered and unlike the wii is expensive. No one seems to care the cost comes from the tablet. Joe Public just thinks its overpriced.

Iwata said he expects Pikmin 3 and SM3DW to move hardware. Pikmin 3 doesn't seem to be doing that as he expected. I hate to think that this time next year he would be waiting for titles to move hardware and it not happening.

Must be nearly at the point they'll make money off it buy now though surely.

Even if they are breaking even or even making a profit, it wouldn't show as I bet they still have a bunch of Wii Us that were originally made at a loss still in stock.

Technically Pikmin 3 did move hardware! But yeah Iwata's crazy if he thought Pikmin could sell systems like Mario or Donkey Kong. Also, they'll definitely price cut by the time MK8 releases. As of now there's nothing slated for release in between SM3DW/Wii Fit U and MK8, so a $100 cut in February or March would be great for maintaining sales momentum.

Lol whoops! I can't read.

I don't think they'll be giving up on the gamepad without Nintendo Land, they would always have a game that has unique Gamepad functionality in it (something like Wii Sports U).

I don't see them dropping the price until probably when Mario Kart hits, maybe bundled. They have to drop the price when they release a major title. With the Mario Kart brand being as strong as ever (after those 30+ million Mario Kart Wii software units sold), I'm sure they'll be able to break even and make profit, even if dropping the price means being sold at a loss again. With more units sold, the loss may not be as bad as it is now.

Exactlty, cutting the price now makes no sense because they dont have the software to make up for it but next year with the continued success of big holiday titles and Mario Kart selling tons, the software shouls be able to make up for any potential HW losses.

You suggested replacing Nintendo Land with games like 3D World & Tropical Freeze, and those games don't really use the gamepad for anything. Heck they can be played completely without it. It just doesn't seem right to bundle a game that doesn't take advantage of the console's main feature, especially when said feature takes $100 or so to make.
