Most gamers are males. That is the reason. Not sexism.

How come it prevents them from playing a female protagonist ? I like to play with female protagonist (it sounds wrong)

And 45% of gamers are female.

If games are good and have a female protagonists, then gamers will play the games.

What does the 45% figure refer to? Is it referring to gamers on the PS3/360? Or is it including Wii gamers, Facebook gamers, iphone gamers, etc.? If it's the former, then the figure is probably wrong. If it's the latter, then I don't think there's a disproportionate amount of male protagonists/sexism on those platforms.

29% on core gamers audience (source : http://www.gamespot.com/news/women-are-the-new-core-says-microsoft-narrative-designer-6406037 )

Again, does it disturb you as a male (Are you a male ?) to play female protagonists ?

Because teens like to identify themselves with the cool lead character, and they can't if it's a girl.

This isn't anything new. Back then in the arcade days in Golden Axe people choosed to play as Ax Battler (the blue guy) instead of Tyris Flare despite him being way worse. And you had to hear comments like "Ha-ha, you're a girl!" if you dare to choose Tyris.

A casual developer says they make up 30% of US gamers (no clue what types of games he's referring to). And then goes to say women are a part of the core. Since this developer is a casual gamer developer, we can assume he's referring to the core of his market - the phone/Facebook gamer market (or whatever casual audience he develops for).

I played Tomb Raider and it doesn't bother me. I also play as female players in a lot of multiplayer games.

I voted the fourth option, because it's true.

If you're going to spent hours staring at the back of a video game character, it may as well be a female with a nice ass.

Well I don't know a lot of core gamers but a few of them are females, so they do exist.

It bothers me and most people, when they are asked, point out another demographic, so are there really a demographic that DON'T wanna play a game with a female protagonist ?

Remember me and Tomb Raider (the new one, not the boobs ones) did well in their respective categories, so why not ?

And Call of Duty as its first dog protagonist, but no females on horizon. And they are women playing call of duty, women in the army, and maybe some straight gamers sick of the sausage fest.

Well, I would have liked the option I don't care. But I did the next best thing. So according to that poll, I'm transgender. I don't care if it's male or female. I currently wouldn't mind more female characters though because every protagonist is a male.

This was the troll/ I don't care answer.

I don't expect many transgender on the forum, only one person out of ten has another sexual identity than his body, and if I remember correctly, one out of a million is a trangender.

Is that accurate? I find it hard to believe.

I like boobs.

I play depending on what is available and if there is any exclusive content or something different in each playthrough.

For an example if I am playing FFTactics - I have 1 male character (a Monk) and 2 female characters (a Wizard and a Priest) - this is excluding the main character and a Red Chocobo.

Another example is the main character in Persona 3 Portable. I played as the male character cause it was my first time. I am planning to play the P3FES soon and after that replay P3P again as the female character.

FES is 5 dollars on US PSN, I made myself a US account for this.

That and Odin sphere was 5 dollars too.

dont matter to me as long as the game is good

however when i used to play UC2 and 3 online i would soley play as chloe
