Forums - Sony - For the Last Time, Sony Shuts the Door on PlayStation All-Stars

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale fans, I am here to crush your dreams. There is no hope of additional DLC. There will be no more stages. Sony's Santa Monica Studio, the studio in charge of the game (for as long as it continues), flat-out shut the door. But free costumes!

It's kind of sad Santa Monica Studio had to do this, because one would think that Sony severing ties with SuperBot, the outfit that made the game, would, to a mature and reasonable adult, communicate the end of any new content for a video game. But a couple weeks ago some concept art for a Journey/Gravity Rush stage appeared, a bunch of folks got their hopes up, and Santa Monica gave the standard "no plans" statement for future content on PlayStation All-Stars.

It's indicative of how meaningless the words "no plans" are in the cosmos of non-answer bullshit that is video games PR that Santa Monica felt compelled, yesterday, to raze to the ground all hopes for anything new in this game.

"There will not be any new DLC characters or environments released for PS All Stars," Sony Santa Monica said on the official forum thread for the game. Note how that statement directly answers the question. That's not "no plans," that's not "we're not talking about that right now." That's a stop sign. There will be no more characters or stages for this game.

"We were proud to work with SuperBot Entertainment and they created a great game, but the characters that have already been released to-date represent the full content for PS All Stars," Sony Santa Monica said, underlining the earlier point.

Now, PlayStation All-Stars fans may still be reading between the lines—wait! But they didn't say that... Ah, ah! They're a step ahead of you:

• A balancing patch? Yes, actually. While they are early in the process of writing one, it is on the schedule. "Even if everything goes smoothly with the development and implementation, the patch will not be finished until later this fall. In particular, we’re assessing all character strengths, weaknesses, and functionality for adjustment considerations in this patch."

• What about character skins? Got that covered too. A costume set available only as a preorder incentive in the United States—for Dante (Devil May Cry), Raiden (Metal Gear), Heihachi (Tekken) and Big Daddy (BioShock) will be made available on PlayStation Network for free for everyone on Aug. 27. The third costumes for Zeus (God of War) and Isaac Clarke (Dead Space) will also be made available for download at the same time the balance patch is finished.

Considering how much "love" the game got pre/during and post release, I don't blame them.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Tell me which one do you think looks more attractive? Which roster looks more like they belong together?

EDIT: Yeah guys, sorry, fail.

Um... I'm pretty sure the PSASBR one is fan-made. Half those characters weren't even in the game.

But it's no secret Smash has a more uniform art style. That said, this is a completely irrelevant line of discussion in this thread...

Probably because Playstation All-Star was nothing but an advertising event. Now that DMC, Sly Cooper, Bioshock Infinite, Metal Gear Rising, ...Dead Space 3 are out, there no use of the game so more. That's personally how I see and why I was so piss about it. It felt like there was no love to the game, no direction, just advertisement.

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Can't blame them. Even if the 1Mil sales made back dev costs and 3rd party licensing costs the game wasn't successful/well-liked enough for a sequel. It was a failed experiment.

I still believe in Gilgamesh... http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=142833&page=1

Rofl if that was the actual roster for PlayStation All Stars then it would have taken a big dump on Smash Bros roster.

That's more like it. *EDIT: Pretend that "pre/during and" is crossed out, if it still didn't work on my second attempt.*

Once upon a time it was the game that PlayStation fans had asked for and a dream come true. But eventually people realized that they didn't get Hollywood stars, but rather Gilbert Gottfried.

Lol dude
