I agree with the bolded, in terms of difficulty however I thought it was fun. Playing with friends is always a good time, and playing online adds lots of replay value.

OT: Double Dash for me. It had a certain charm to it that I didn't get with Mario Kart Wii. I liked the two people on the kart in double dash, Mario Kart Wii just felt too simplistic.

A word to describe Mario Kart, simple.

Fixed! They're meant to be simple so that anyone can pick it up and play.

Mario Kart: Double Dash, 64 were simple as well but the mechanic challenge you along with the courses. I can understand holding the newcomers hand, I just wish it was opitional. I felt MKWii was holding my hand WAY too much.

But how exactly!? It's not like it gives you a tutorial on to drive on any track during any given situation. Heck the game doesn't even tell you how to boost off at the start or after you're saved by Lakitu.

No, it's how the tracks are design.

Double Dash by far.

It's too late at night to post reasons but I have plenty.

Of course I'm going to agree with this. Double Dash is the. best. Mario Kart. ever.

By the by, haven't we had threads having something to do with MK:DD several times in the past few months? It's odd...

Didn't the producer say they are looking into a "Double Dash Mode" maybe? Cause of requests or something like that. If I remember correctly. Personally I don't care. I didn't like DD that much.

Except whenever I was racing! Dx

Is Mario Kart Wii's item line-up really more balanced that Double Dash? All I can remember is that the bullet bill is a more sane version of the chain chomp, but other than that I'm drawing blanks on the rest of it's item roster.

Yes, it's more balanced, because every player has a chance to get the same items.

DD was also really messed up in four player mode, because you could get a golden mushroom in second place (well, Toad and Toadette could get them). The same crap was present in Mario Kart 64. What this means is that the blue shell isn't the only item that can screw you over when you are in first place. It's mindboggling that people complain about the blue shell so much, but never mention the golden mushroom.

The two things that are the most important when it comes to items are:

1) Every player is eligible to get every item.
2) You can only get powerful items when you are positioned in the bottom half of the bulk.

Not that MK Wii is perfect (the cloud item should never return and bikes vs. karts isn't balanced at all), but at least skill got rewarded more often than in the previous two home console entries. Super Mario Kart was the most skill-based, because it didn't have the item madness (usually you only got one item per lap).

Dang, I always thought MKWii was the most inbalanced in the series. You have opened my eyes to the truth! If the game had online I doubt as many people would be praising it hehe.

DD had online capabilites but you needed an addon for the console.

Because double dash should never be forgotten, or wish to have another one somewhere down the road. I forgot, wasn't Retro who develop MK: DD?

I'm not completely sure. It would be interesting if they were, though, as that would push them further up my "favorite devs." list.

no not at all, Retro ONLY helped with MK 7. The series is in the hands from Hideko Konno since the beginning

The suspension system and weight balance ofthe karts felt more realistic in DD and i liked it moar

I go for Double Dash.

The local multiplayer, which has been the best part of mario kart since the first game, was screwed up in the wii game.

The arenas are too big to play with friends at home.
They are only made for 12 drivers.
WTF?!

And you are forced to play in teams.
WTF?!

Why is there no free-for-all option?
Actually, free for all should be the default mode, and team mode optional.
I can't understand why Nintendo did this.
Total failure in my and my friends point of view.

Also the items you get when you are behind in races are too good, but this also counts for Double Dash.

As some reviews have stated:

"NGamer claimed that the tracks are too big for local multiplayer matches. Also, IGN criticized the rubber band AI in the 150cc races of the Grand Prix and NGamer UK was disappointed that Battle mode can now only be played in teams; no free-for-all option is offered which removes the 'last man standing' element of previous Mario Kart Battle modes. Reviewers such as GameTrailers and IGN also commented that it is easy to fall from first place to last by being continuously attacked by several weapons, many of which are unavoidable, leading to a certain amount of luck in racing. This makes it more accessible for beginners, but can be extremely discouraging for skilled players."

I agree

''Hadouken!''

DD was considered at the time to be worse than MK64. It's probably the least innovative of all the Mario Kart games. That's not to say it sucked, far from it. It's just didn't add anything substantial to the MK formula.

Mario Kart Wii was the better game.
