Except whenever I was racing! Dx

Is Mario Kart Wii's item line-up really more balanced that Double Dash? All I can remember is that the bullet bill is a more sane version of the chain chomp, but other than that I'm drawing blanks on the rest of it's item roster.

Yes, it's more balanced, because every player has a chance to get the same items.

DD was also really messed up in four player mode, because you could get a golden mushroom in second place (well, Toad and Toadette could get them). The same crap was present in Mario Kart 64. What this means is that the blue shell isn't the only item that can screw you over when you are in first place. It's mindboggling that people complain about the blue shell so much, but never mention the golden mushroom.

The two things that are the most important when it comes to items are:

1) Every player is eligible to get every item.
2) You can only get powerful items when you are positioned in the bottom half of the bulk.

Not that MK Wii is perfect (the cloud item should never return and bikes vs. karts isn't balanced at all), but at least skill got rewarded more often than in the previous two home console entries. Super Mario Kart was the most skill-based, because it didn't have the item madness (usually you only got one item per lap).

Dang, I always thought MKWii was the most inbalanced in the series. You have opened my eyes to the truth! If the game had online I doubt as many people would be praising it hehe.

DD had online capabilites but you needed an addon for the console.
