If Sony does leave the industry, I think they will only leave the console part, not games making, that part is profitable. However if they did, then MS would be able to implement their DRM policies due to lack of competition. You will either have Nintendo or MS as a choice and I'd hope another company would step into the mix to produce more competition. But I hope that new company is no Apple or Google. Someone like Samsung who are hardware specialists.

Hmm, pie.

My guess is some other third company would enter the fray in that case. Probably Samsung.

It'd be a shame, but a lot of people are overreacting. If the PS4 fails, then Sony would just go 3rd party or develop a system with Nintendo to rival MS. If not, they will focus on tablets and mobile and move the next iterations of their major IPs there.

People who don't think Sony would stay in the industry are wrong. If they were going to leave it would be in 2008/09.

Nintendo-Sony console and handheld would be ..... yes please. Put me down for both of those.

I was gaming a long time before Sony, I'll be gaming a long time after.

True words but many don't know that gaming was also a lot of fun before psx.

True, videogames werent considered as well rounded tech for all ages until the PSX. Before that they were considered toys.

To some they are still toys. What exactly do you want to say?

Well, the PS4 has some hard core game fans so they will buy.

Outside of the hard core gamer, there isn't really anything unique about the PS4. It' doesn't have a Tablet or Fitboard like the WiiU, it doesn't have Kinect and SmartGlass like the Xbox One, it doesn't have an exclusive format (like Blu-ray) that the PS3 had. It's just a little game machine, all be it a very powerful one, with an optional super expensive Vita tablet if you want to add that too it.

They are going to have to work hard to convince people other than hard core fans the reasons why they have to buy their system. They will do fine at the beginning, and probably Japan.

I think if the PS4 doesn't sell that well, they will stay in gaming on other platforms, but cut back about half of their creation. They will dump all the 'marginal' money makers, and keep the biggest ones. I think the PS4 would have to have just miserable sales for them to drop it. Even if it sells like the GameCube they will still be making it.

I hear they might stop making TV's. It would be sad to see Sony become just an insurance sales company.

Actually PS4 has a camera for it and while extremely more expensive you can buy a Vita and have very similar function to the Wii U

Right, I did point this out that the PS4 can have the Vita as a tablet.  But it adds a significant amount to the price.  The WiiU comes with a (small) tablet, and with the Xbox and SmartGlass you can use any tablet you already own.

And yes, the PS4 has a camera. But it's not packed in or mandatory.  What have they shown that it can really do?  Good or bad, I haven't seen anything significant from the PS4 Camera yet.   Plus they are at a disadvantage anything they do will be compared to the Kinect.

While gamers on this site are overjoyed, I think they are in a tough place for the general purchaser as to why they should get their system over the others.

I guess I have to respect your opinion but just as you are a "fanboy" of Microsoft. There are Sony fanboys and nintendo fanboys that are going to say that Microsoft is the system that will struggle the most this gen. Me personally will have all 3, love and play all 3, and I hate this childish too broke to buy more than one system fanboy shit. This gen is going to come down to one thing only and that is price.

Honestly Sony gets a bit too much credit for that. Sega had already made it "cool" for teenagers/adults to play consoles with their buddies.

I think that sadly this will be the fate of Microsoft. I can see Microsoft leaving the hardware division and sticking to just software (games) especially if they have a repeat of the original Xbox. I think with the amount of money they put into the Xbox one they stand to lose the most this gen especially with the high price in all. They should have took a page from Sony and saw that it doesn't matter what kind of iressive tech you have in a console people just don't want to pay the price. They wil sell but we will see them lag all generation long like Sony did unless the drop that price.

We can scream about features, but my time on this site and many others have shown me that despite all the advancements a system has, price always reigns king. I am in the minority of gamers who buy all the systems just to enjoy all the industry has to offer. Most people usually get what they can afford and stick with it and for some strange reason go to war with words on the Internet over a company as if their lives or family lives depended upon it. It is very hilarious at times.

Yep...exactly the reason all the toy stores went out of business where I live. Babies, toddlers and very young children are the only reason Toys R Us still exists. K B Toys went ouf business where I live because of EB Games. Electronics took over and kids are kicking over toys just to get their hands on games. They are desensitized to the effects of technology. Then the Playstation came onto th scene the game industry grew by like forty million+ and continued to grow there after and then MS segmented that crowd. Thats an effect if I ever saw one. Today the average gamer is an adult.

Sure, Sega did a lot. Especially considering how much arcade-games they ported to their consoles.
