The gaming industry would go on just fine and someone would step up at some point and replace them just as Atari and Sega before. Don't get me wrong it would hurt the overall industry but its been done before and everyone got through it and i would doubt that Sony would just up and quit everything gaming, i could see them going the route of Sega if anything ever happen to where they just couldn't afford the loss on each console which would be just fine.

A bigger question is who do you guys think would step up to bat to fill the void? Lord knows i hope it wouldn't be Apple because if some of you think Sony fans are hard to get along with just think of the Apple folks.....

My top choices that i could see filling Sony's spot would be

Google
Apple
Valve
EA
AMD
Intel

I would probably have to quit for a whole generation. The RPGs I want to play, at the caliber I want to play them, would probably take a while to retool themselves. Probably would take really late end of gen before XBONE got em. There is no hope for Wii U in that regard.

Then probably it would have to be XFOURTYTWO since Nintendo is bound and determined to make prev gen capable hardware. Unless of course a new third party decided to compete with MS.

The Internet fanbase would be riddled with tons of ex Sony guys that talk about the good old days. Kind of like Sega except multiplied by 350.

GC era had third party just a bit of it and the first party wasn't as good as it could've been. They would have to have Wii-like fame to turn the third parties over to them again.

It'd be a shame, but a lot of people are overreacting. If the PS4 fails, then Sony would just go 3rd party or develop a system with Nintendo to rival MS. If not, they will focus on tablets and mobile and move the next iterations of their major IPs there.

People who don't think Sony would stay in the industry are wrong. If they were going to leave it would be in 2008/09.
