"What if Sony quits the gaming industry?"
The question is flawed Sony is the gaming industry.
It's like asking what if the Earth left the Planet.

I was gaming a long time before Sony, I'll be gaming a long time after.
i will be very happy cause i finally have a good reason to quit gaming for spending too much $$$ on every Playtation console all these years...
That would suck, i couldn't imagine an industry that allows Microsoft to gain full control
*Nintendo goes for a completely different audience"
| Zappykins said: Well, the PS4 has some hard core game fans so they will buy. Outside of the hard core gamer, there isn't really anything unique about the PS4. It' doesn't have a Tablet or Fitboard like the WiiU, it doesn't have Kinect and SmartGlass like the Xbox One, it doesn't have an exclusive format (like Blu-ray) that the PS3 had. It's just a little game machine, all be it a very powerful one, with an optional super expensive Vita tablet if you want to add that too it. They are going to have to work hard to convince people other than hard core fans the reasons why they have to buy their system. They will do fine at the beginning, and probably Japan. I think if the PS4 doesn't sell that well, they will stay in gaming on other platforms, but cut back about half of their creation. They will dump all the 'marginal' money makers, and keep the biggest ones. I think the PS4 would have to have just miserable sales for them to drop it. Even if it sells like the GameCube they will still be making it. I hear they might stop making TV's. It would be sad to see Sony become just an insurance sales company. |
That doesn't mean anything, why would casuals buy an xbox one for kinect, if they can get a 360 with a kinect for a much cheaper price
Plus, the PS1 and PS2 and PS3 did fine without a needless gimmick
What if the sky turns orange and starts raining gummy bears?
It would likely mean contraction of the industry, which needs to happen but hopefully not to that extent. I like Sony consoles and games. The're rarely as good as Sony makes them out to be (which often leads to disappointment on my part) but they're pretty damn good.
I would go Nintendo all the way.
I will sooner quit gaming than get another Microsoft system.
Well, i guess theres the PC aswell... so PC and Nintendo all the way. ^^
If Sony quits the videogame industry this means Sony as a company is on the way to a horrible death. Sony in it videogames for the long haul and its a primary money maker for them, much like Nintendo even though they have other things they make money off of. The Loss of the SCE sector would be a shot a shot in in a vital part and would more than likely spell the end for Sony. This is why they pour so much into so many games. Where other electronics have fallen their gaming sector just grows and grows.
I think if Sony died Microsoft would become bored and uninspired but would still try to continue their struggle for dominance of the living room. They would most likely keep nearly every third party away from Nintendo as well so Nintendo would be cut off from the major gaming audience. Nintendo wouldn't be able to play they money game with them. Nintendo would be forced to go into 100% survival and profitability mode off of first party.
At first I thought I would be pretty happy but after some though I think the outcome of that would be far more horrible as that fan base fragments and splinters off into other groups. While it does mean I wont ever be buying a console from them I do like having them in the market more than I would the outcome of them not being in the market.
