I hate how everyone says Sunshine was so great, and every Gamecube game ever made was so phenomenal. yet, no one bought the system hardly. Put your money where your mouth is people! Do you know that I have to pay like 30 dollars just to buy a used copy of most worthwhile GC games because of all of you?

What about me? I bought two, but had to pawn them for money to buy adult things.

Galaxy. High Critic Scores, Mario done right even though we would never had asked for it like that.

Sunshine was the second official game, but he had been done in 3D with Mario Party and the Mario sports games and Mario Kart. They got pretty much everything right with the first 3D mario, so it was not like they had to recreate the wheel or anything. Plus they perfected 3D with various other games since the Mario 64. NO, Mario Sunshine was more like Mario bros 2. Weird and goofy, that turned out to be pretty fun, just not great. Not Mario 3.

Thats just opinions man, and Sunshine sold more than 6 million on a small installbase. Too be honest, Mario Sunshine is one of the only Mario games i actually like.

Some would say it was because there was not a lot of options. I am impressed by how well some games did though. It is just sad that so many said it was a great console, yet no one did anything about it. It is one of those things that make you wonder, "What did Nintendo do so wrong?" Then you see the Wii U and live through it first hand and you go ...oh! I see. It is possible for this type of thing to happen. Not because the system is that bad or because the games are bad, just because of some pour ..poor...decisions on Nintendo's part.

Sales dont determine a great console or game...

I agree. See Dreamcast and N64 for example.

But sales do determine how many great games a great console will have. The Wii got way more than it would have gotten just because 100's ( 1,000's?) of devs wanted to get games on the system to play the "Lottery" and hopefully have one of the 100 million owners buy their games. Luckily, some of those games were good and it got a nice library of decent games in the end. People will still be digging through all the hidden treasures for years to come. So many games that were lost in the mix of all the shovelware.

Although, Nintendo did put some effort into the GC. Just was still too little too late. The N64 years had Nintendo making too many bad choices, and I think that hurt the GC some as well. People were mad that they did not get some third parties, third parties were mad at them, and the lack of games at times was not good. I was going to buy a GC either way, but some may have had a bad taste in their mouths. Which they did, so they bought a PS2. The rest is history. As is Mario Sunshine. It loses because of all of this. If it would have been on the Wii, it would have been different. History is written by the winners. Mario Galaxy is that winner. Huge review scores and huge sales. Only reason NSMB sold 3 times better is because of the Casual rush.

I dont know why sales and reviews make Mario Galaxy a better game than Sunshine. Reviews are never objective, and Sunshine had a higher attach rate than Galaxy did.

I think the reason it didnt sell as well as 64 or Galaxy is becuase many thought it was a spinoff. At SpaceWorld 2000 they showed a tech demo Super Mario 128 and I think people were expecting them to run with that idea but instead released Mario Vacation. Many sites like IGN and Gamespot had Mario 128 slated as a 2004-2005 release.

Its kinda the same thing as when they showed off the realistic Zelda at SpaceWorld and instead released Wind Waker, its not wjat people wanted or expected. That in addition to Star Fox, Donkey Kong and Kirby never getting traditional installments hurt Gamecube.

That is a good point. I remember Mario 128 in all the gaming magazines. I also remember seeing Zelda like we thought it would be, but did not get until the end of the GC. They pulled a lot of strange crap back then now that you reminded me of it. Wind Waker was a big mistake. It turned out to be a great game of course, but I think it turned a lot of people off. There was so much backlash over it.

The only big series that didnt have drastic changes were Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Metroid Iis the only one tgat actually beneffited from changing.

Sunshine was a good game it was just redundant in the level design. I didn't like that every level had a tropical setting, it just started to feel overdone in my opinion. Sunshine in personality and exploration, but Galaxy in level design and overall fun factor.

Galaxy. Sunshine's level design was awful. And then there was F.L.U.D.D. It's pretty telling that the best scenes were those when you didn't have access to F.L.U.D.D at all.
