Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One is designed to be always-on for 10 years, New development hardware also reveals that it's near-silent a lot of the time

10 years... then it should not be a problem to keep 3 years of warranty like the xbox 360 maybe they can even give us 5 years.

I truly hope that they do not only give 3 months like before.

Xbox 360 has a 1 year warranty.  Not 3 years.

The RROD had a 3 year warranty, but in general the Xbox 360's did not.  Originally the console had a 90 day warranty.

I got a E74 error after 2 years in 2009 and they fixed it for free. So even if the 3 years warranty was officialy just for the RROD they were probably fixing many more issue type under the same warranty.

But anyway Microsoft public image on reliability is still suffering from the 360. So for them to put a 3 - 5 years warranty on the One is imo a great way to recover public trust and increase the number of early adopter at a low cost (if it's truly as reliable as they claim).

And what happens after 10 years?

10 years is supposed to be a minimum estimated lifespan. It wouldn't be feasible  to put a 10 year experation date:). Eventually when xb1's successor comes around it will probably be x86-64 architecture as well. Meaning it wouldn't be to difficult to make it backwards compatible with xb1:). Our xb1 games will most likely work on xb2.

Always on for 10 years is an oxymoron.

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

The E74 was added to the 3 year warranty about the same time as the standard warranty increased to 1 year.  I think it was between January 2010 and March 2010, because March was when I found out the warranty increased to 1 year.

After, I believe it was, the Jasper units were released, the number of E74 errors increased.

"Our sources say that Xbox One is expected to remain almost entirely silent in standby"

What electronic device isn't completely silent in standby lmfao

Edit - By the way, in your signature, it's "than" not "then".

Perhaps next-gen systems as their standby isn't really standby. There is still hardware working in standby-mode.
