Forums - Gaming - A Tablet With Better Than Wii U/PS3 Graphics? -- Nvidia's Mobile Kepler

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2013/07/24/kepler-to-go-nvidia-offers-a-stunning-glimpse-at-their-next-mobile-processor/

Nvidia recently teased their new Mobile Kelper GPU which is designed for tablets, it looks like PS3-esque graphics performance in coming to tablets soon. The amazing thing is this chip apparently only uses 2-3 watts of electricity, making even the Wii U at 33 watts seem pedestrian.

If Nintendo is really thinking about a portable style Wii U ... it seems like the performance/battery ratio is there already today.

Nvidia's mobile division is also very good at spouting huge numbers while performance isn't as good.

That's why 3DS is using PICA, because Nvidia didn't deliver.

powerful or not, which is probably wont be upon release because Nvidia constantly fail at living up to expectations, people just do not like to game on a purely touch screen interface.

And i know the Shield tried to solve this but its a terrible design, like something we saw from the 90s

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

please let Sony or Ms pick this up and make a true gaming tablet..

Consoles will become obselete in the near future. Tablets will pass them in hardware. You'll probably see Sony and Microsoft have tablet consoles in Gen 6. They'll function the same as a console, but they'll be playble anywhere.

What exactly is "near future"? You can't do wonders on power-limited "computers". Yes, architectures get better over time but 360 for example is out since 2005 and still graphics are not better on mobile devices. With the new consoles the gap will increase again by a lot while mobiles haven't even catched current-gen consoles. Also I really doubt we will see tablets at nextnext-gen. How do you think so?

Gen 6 is like 18-20 years away, I think tablets will become powerful enough to pass a console. Also, I think the Gen 5 consoles will be a smaller jump. Games are becoming way too expensive to make, so why would publishers want their games to become even more expensive. So tablets will easily surpass these future consoles.

The graphics on your mobile/tablet is barely better than the Wii.
They are generally simple, tiny worlds which are easy to render, full of 2D sprites, low resolution textures with minimal filtering, simple lighting and shadows and barely any geometry. (Don't get me started on the Physics or A.I!)
Only plus is Tablets generally render games equal to or higher than the current consoles (I.E. Equal to or greater than 720P.)

I'm afraid we are still a couple of years away from having Tablets capable of matching the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, let alone the Wii U, PS4 or Xbox One.
nVidia's demo, isn't even a full fledged game, we have facial graphics like that with todays games, that's on top of rendering entire worlds, imagine what would happen if developers only had a face and nothing else to render on the current consoles?

First, I think you are confusing gen-numbers, second, next-next-gen is not 18-20 years away. But even if, I think by then the way we live and computing devices are is totally different from what we know today.

How much?
