Forums - Sony - PS4-exclusive Killzone: Shadow Fall pre-orders outpacing Forza 5 and Ryse - Analyst

Pre-orders for Sony's Killzone: Shadow Fall on PS4 are tracking ahead of next-gen rivals Forza 5, Ryse and Dead Rising 3, a report from analyst Cowen & Co. has revealed.

The 2013 Cowen Video Game Odometer is based on an analysis of NPD sales data and Amazon.com best-seller data from past years, which the firm claims to give it 96 to 97 per cent accuracy. Data has been monitored since E3 in June and is updated every few weeks.

Out of a maximum score of 100, Killzone: Shadow Fall currently scores 30.3, which compares favourably to next-gen competition.

Forza 5 is the top placed Xbox One title at 18.8, followed by Dead Rising 3 at 15 and Ryse at 13.2. Sony may well be concerned about its full launch line-up, however, with Knack only scoring 7.7 and Driveclub barely registering on 3.0.

Cowen states that we are "very early in the pre-order cycle for most of the games we are tracking".

To put these figures into context, last year's Black Ops 2 scored 100 and went on to generate sales of $1 billion in 15 days. This year's Call of Duty: Ghosts has a score of 73, meaning it's on track to sell fewer units than Blops 2, but could perform better than Modern Warfare 3.

Battlefield 4 scored 54.7, tracking ahead of Battlefield 3, whilst Ubisoft's Watch Dogs is clearly set to perform well for a new IP with a score of 69.6.

Somewhat surprisingly, GTA 5 only scores 58.4, but Cowen notes that this doesn't take into account pre-orders prior to June 2013 – the game was accepting orders way back in November 2012.

I...I don't know what this even is supposed to mean. Especially if its only June we are talking about as well.

Though, only one game isn't great when there's 3 for the other system. What if you don't like Killzone?this pretty much says that the PS4 isn't for you.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

If you read the article properly then this is actually pretty good news for the Xbox games....

3 decent performing games v 1 in pre-orders.

correct me if i m misunderstanding.. so ur saying ryse and forza 5 will sell less cause of variety and sale will be split between them.. and KZSF will have more sales coz theres is only one title worth buying for ps4.... Huh now where have i seen such situation before

well driveclub is free so its a no brainer why its preorders are low... and for knack its pretty evident y!

Doesn't surprise me that Killzone is ahead of Ryse, but Forza 5 ?

If anything this is good for xbone's exclusives, as the article only speaks about them, not preorders for next-gen games in general. And it isn't entirely surprising given the circumstances about PS4 exclusives which Taus already pointed out.

Is it your company by the way? You know Kowenicki, Kowen, Cowen... ;-P

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

4 would be even better!

That aside, pre-order numbers don't mean anything really. Who is pre-ordering those games anyway? Are people really concerned that there are gonna be some shortages? I did pre-order the PS4 but not a single game. I'm pretty sure there will be enough games around when I go pick the console up. And even if Killzone will be sold out, screw that, I'm just gonna buy it off the PSN. I got 50 Mbit Internet three weeks ago. :P

Well DriveClub is probablt love because it will be accessed for free via PS+. Knack is more of a casual game so pre-orders won't be to high. The third party games will probably be the big seller on both PS4 and XboxOne at launch.

So a well established shooter franchise outsell a racing sim and a new ip on a more preordered system.

Is anybody truly suprise?

Well it's obvious no one is going to preorder Drive Club, as there is a free version with psn+.

Good news for KZ.
