I play games at home. When I'm elsewhere I do other things.

Problem comes from the fact that handhelds do have exclusives, and you can play handhelds at home too.
Justsaying

But if I'm at home, I could just play consoles, which I find offer a vastly better experience.

While I know that's just an opinion, you still miss out on games this way.  Some handhelds have home console-like quality games on them as well.

Even if you prefer AAA games on handhelds buying a 3DS is certainly a better choice than the Vita as it already has more interesting ones (FE, RER, MH3 and 4, SMT4, KI...) and it will continue thanks to much better sales and a way better installed base. If you plan to use your handheld only at home like most hanhelds players then the WiiU is an even better solution to play these kind of games with ports of big games that the Vita doesn't get. If you prefer creative games the 3DS again is a much better offering with all the Nintendo games on retail or eshop.

So really there is pretty much no point to buy a Vita as there are better alternatives whatever the kind of games you are interested in and as the platform is pretty much already dead commercially. It's a shame but Sony did so much mistakes in the conception and planning of this console than it's the harsh reality now and there is not a lot to hope in the future.

I'll inevitably miss out on some games, as I have both limited time and limited money. I figure I may as well focus my time and money on console gaming, which I believe offers more.

@MSMAlliance: This is also not true, the below are some of the unique gaming experiences that can only be had on the vita

@Curl6 - I play my Vita in coffee shops, on public transport, in the car, and browse the web and post on the web while the wife is shopping. You should try portable gaming on Vita..  and watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGNxHa0bqCI&hd=1

None of those make we want to buy a Vita though, frankly.

If I'm at a coffee shop or on the bus I'll read a book, or more likely just daydream.

It just doesn't have games that I want to play. Plain and simple, I owned one, and it collected dust.

The Vita bullied me in school!  look who's the loser now! AHAHAHA

I love my vita

1. We have a decent Call of Duty Black Ops 2 spin-off (really not as bad as articles doomed it to be)

2. It has been confirmed that we will be getting ... another Assassin's Creed spin-off

3. YOU HAVE TO REALIZE SLOWLY, BUT SURELY VITA IS CATCHING UP IN QUALITY TO 3DS!

1. You can't be serious.

2. has it?

3. Sure, it's catching up nicely if we assume that the 3DS isn't getting anymore games from now on. Sadly, this is the real world and it's not true.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I have a Vita, love it, and it has enough games for me to have accumulated a backlog.

The vita has Persona 4 Golden. That is reason enough to buy it xD
