Forums - Gaming - Step away from gaming media for a while

Tagged games:

With emergencies at work taking up the majority of my time for the last two weeks (the life of a software developer), I haven't had much time to get to read up on gaming news like I used to daily. Meaning, I had no idea about any new rumors/reports/insider leaks about the Sony RAM issue or lack thereof.

It was pretty damn awesome.

I didn't have to read post after post of arguments, updates to the original sources, and doom articles by the media. I think I'm going to keep away from all things related to next gen until the end of September. I've even had more time to actually play videogames lol (13 hours into Wild ARMS 4 now). I honestly wish I had doen this immediately after E3. Gaming media always struggles to stay relevant during the Summer months, so it's no surprise "insider sources" have become so prevalent.

I encourage you all to do the same.

So you are pulling a Fish?

I pretty much stick to VGC and NintendoLife.  I try to avoid any articles dealing with Pachter or doom.

I honestly don't know what that means. But if that's some new gaming slang for not being bothered by gaming media because they're grasping at anything to get traffic, then yes sir, I'm pulling a Fish.

Its better that way, avoid the ugly side of gaming.

I used to go to Destructoid a lot but then I realized that getting pissed off with Jim Sterling's sensationalist and vulgar style was just causing me stress for nothing. Unlike some others, I don't want to feel "outraged" at something that I do for enjoyment. I regret that I sometimes have to miss good writers because of things like that but that's the way it goes. Now I avoid writers like that, those who seem to want to bring gaming media down into the mud, as though they were a TMZ spin-off or something.

Avoid writers all together , Its just better to experience something yourself rather than someone tells you about it.

Stay in the official threads there will be some arguments they but for the most part they're harmless.

I've got to know something about games or I won't know what to buy or even what is coming out.  I just avoid those who go "internet outrage" mode over the slightest thing, or those who make their reputation by being obnoxious and crude.  There are plenty of good, positive writers out there.

I was just joking about Phil Fish's recent fallout over Marcus Beer.
