So that means that KZ only had 0.5GB in Feb. Damn. Oh wait sorry, it's Richard. Story is most likely bullshit.

RIF.

When the PS4 only had 4GB, apparently the OS only used 512MB of RAM.  That would have given a game 3.5GB to play in.

So you're saying that Sony added extra costs onto the console only to give developers an extra gig. 2 if the stars align. It may be true. But honestly it makes no sense. The xbone uses only 3 gigs for 3 OS's. And an indy game is already using 5GB. The whole thing just stinks of FUD.

Even if it's true it won't affect me since I will only play exclusives on it. PC for everything else but the article just seems crap. Similar to the 7 minute DVR feature.

EDIT: On second thought. If it's true, it really pisses me off if this is true. The console costs extra just so Sony can add crap to the OS. Go back to 4GB and drop the price please. And remove bloat from the OS.

I think when a game is running, they likely had 3.5 GB available.  However, when a game wasn't running, the OS consumed more memory.  The downside of this type of arrangement is that you can't do a lot.  For example, the video recording feature probably was made more robust after the 4GB was added.

The other side of this is Microsoft is a software company that has been developing OSes since the 1980's.  Sony isn't.  With every console Sony is using a new OS to do something new.  There's no expertise built-up within Sony with their OS because it changes every time.

Because of Microsoft's experience and expertise, I think they're likely able to create a smaller, more efficient OS than Sony is.

Illl wait for sony to say something.

Yeah, need to understand why an OS would be that demanding.

Did anybody think all the memory was reserved for games ?

Alternatively it means that back in Feb, sony intended on a linear, bare bones OS and 3.5GB of Ram for developers.

Or most likely the story is a load of crap. Just like the 7 minutes of recording. Eurogamer are losing credibility fast. It's actually a shame. Leadbeater needs to be fired. Sony showed the OS back in Feb. Doubt they would have showed it if they were only about to expand it to 3.5GB. Also what happens during a game when the OS needs 3.5 instead of 2.5? The Game freezes? Goes to looking like crap?

yeah this reeks of BS.  Everything else (including devs and Cerny I believe) has pointed to 1gb so I do not see how it would suddenly more than triple.

The fault wasn't Eurogamers.  The person in the recording said "Seven", you can clearly hear it.  However, they did, apparently after the presentation, clarify that they meant to say "Several".  As was scripted.

Several isn't 15 still, so it seems as though Sony is still being ambiguous.  If it's 15, just say 15.  If not, say how much it is.

Well that 15 min background recording has to be stored somehwere.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

OS BS. Talk is cheap, and speculting about shit is free, just like the OS that the PS4's is heavily based off, so I think it's very, very unlikely it needs more than 1 or 2 gigs MAX to run everything.

god damn that share button!

Well, that's pretty pants if true. But I think I'll wait for something more solid than this DF article before I believe it.

1gb OS
2.5gb Cross game chat :P
