So that means that KZ only had 0.5GB in Feb. Damn. Oh wait sorry, it's Richard. Story is most likely bullshit.

RIF.

When the PS4 only had 4GB, apparently the OS only used 512MB of RAM.  That would have given a game 3.5GB to play in.

So you're saying that Sony added extra costs onto the console only to give developers an extra gig. 2 if the stars align. It may be true. But honestly it makes no sense. The xbone uses only 3 gigs for 3 OS's. And an indy game is already using 5GB. The whole thing just stinks of FUD.

Even if it's true it won't affect me since I will only play exclusives on it. PC for everything else but the article just seems crap. Similar to the 7 minute DVR feature.

EDIT: On second thought. If it's true, it really pisses me off if this is true. The console costs extra just so Sony can add crap to the OS. Go back to 4GB and drop the price please. And remove bloat from the OS.

I think when a game is running, they likely had 3.5 GB available.  However, when a game wasn't running, the OS consumed more memory.  The downside of this type of arrangement is that you can't do a lot.  For example, the video recording feature probably was made more robust after the 4GB was added.

The other side of this is Microsoft is a software company that has been developing OSes since the 1980's.  Sony isn't.  With every console Sony is using a new OS to do something new.  There's no expertise built-up within Sony with their OS because it changes every time.

Because of Microsoft's experience and expertise, I think they're likely able to create a smaller, more efficient OS than Sony is.
