So forget eveything I said until a reliable source.

5.5GB is still plentiful.

I ask myself: What do they do with all the ram? Where is the advantage of freebsd everybody was talking about? Xbone does a lot of stuff with 3 OSs but PS4? I am curious.

This is drama? I expected much worse news. :p
That being said I'm surprised the OS takes that much.
So it wasn't such a big deal? As long as the PS4 runs videogames I could care less about the RAM.
But they should have stated this since the beggining. XD
"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"
Now i'm not going to say right out that this information is "false." It's quite possibly true, but I find it hard to believe at the same time. 3.5GB for OS operation? That sounds ridiculous even for what the PS4 is trying to do with video capture. Did the devs originally have less then 1gb of ram to work with in the machine? It doesn't make any sense, especially considering Sony made the jump to 8GB based on developer feedback.
I would rather wait for a more accurate source to discuss further. Could be true, or it could be as accurate as those DRM reports awhile back.

I don't know...
WhatI understand 4.5GB is fixed to games and the OS can't get anymore for it... and 2.5GB is fixed fo OS... 1GB is shared if no game is runing the OS uses it for apps but if the Games ask for it the games uses it over the OS (games have priority).
If 3'5 Gb RAM for the OS is true....and, the decison to upgrade from 4gb to 8gb was during the time of the ps4 presentation back in february, this indicates that the original use of the OS have to be less than this 3'5 gb, why it uses so much now, even more than xbox one??.
So the ps4 uses more gigs for the os and games then the x1 unless the dev get acess to the flexible ram (what ever that means) but uses better ram and gpu so now its pretty much a sure thing games are going to be the same on both platforms except for 1st party
