Does this mean the marketplace is going to end up full of shit? if you look at ios and android 99% of the games(if you can call them that a lot of the time) are pure crap and a waste of effort to skim past.

Not necesarily, every Vita is a dev kit and the mobile store on there isnt full of crap.

The reasons for this we should elaborate...

Nice... and the DevTools, APIs and documentation will be free to? I want to know more about.

My guess is that you'll need to purchase Microsoft Visual Studio 2013, rather than one of their free development products.  More than likely, they'll include it within the Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate Edition.

Nah the tools will be free, in fact id be willing to bet what were looking at here is this

http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/eng/products/visual-studio-express-for-windows-8#product-express-windows

It will be about creating windows 8 apps that are cross compatible with Xbox One and Windows Phone, it wont be about creating full XBOne only games.

The latest update in the Eurogamer article practically confirms it.

The stuff that gets put on will still go through a cert process, to stop crap like fart apps, porn apps, copyright infringement apps and press X to unlock 1000g.

You will not be seeing Nintendo emulators on the official store, but if people release there source code theres nothing to stop you from downloading that and launching it from your own PC to your Xbox one if you want those emulators.

using retail consoles as dev kits sound awesome!

Can the ps4 do the same?

No why would it? The idea of making your games console a dev kit is weird if not clever. Sony didn't lack Indie support, they have been on the right track, good relationships, devs being allowed to publish themselves.

Hmm, pie.

Yeah its not like all Vita's are dev kits, oh wait...

wouldn't that make the console pretty easy to hack?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I never said they wouldn't in the future but we've not heard anything about it being able to currently. Again, they were on the right track, they didn't need to have their PSN Store filled with useless applications, they wanted to secure good games made by talented independent developers and allow them the freedom to publish their game without restrictions. They did this already.

That said, I'd prefer 30 decent games over 200 half assed ones. I'm a developer but wouldn't think of making a game using an Xbox, Vita, iOS or any thing like that because it's not my field of development. I know game programmers/teachers that will like this, for schools and college's it's a great opportunity to get something they would never normally be able to get.

Im a developer too, and i have to say im getting the same vibe, great for bedroom coders or teaching courses, but not quite what the established indie devs were looking for.
