Ow wow it doesn't stream anything.. it actually uses the internet to display the same content you are watching on your tablet/smartphone whatever.. that limits it use incredibly.. you can only use google apps.. I thought it would mirror you tablet/desktop/whatever.. even my android stick on my TV can do better then this

Yep just reading into that. Not really limiting... if you use Google's services, then its all cloud based anyways.

It can store 20,000 of your songs in Google Music. However, I think the Chrome portion has to stream the PC as the device is also the "remote". So likely the PC usage is far more useful in that regards.

I guess I was wrong in my assumption that it would play locally stored content via the various Play apps. I'll have to wait for a hands-on for that info directly.

Id buy that over Chromecast any day and I'd never buy that...lol

There are several Miracast adapters in the 30-50 dollar range that do what they are supposed to and sctream content while allowing your PC/tablet/smartphone to be the central hub for decisioning how things are being delivered to your TV (streaming from device or internet).

This is why there are standards like DLNA or UPnP... I can stream any file on my phone with BubbleUPnP to my TV - GRATIS!

You can only use stuff on the web/cloud.. personally I find that limiting.. I don't want all my personal video's and photos in the hands of google.. it would be better if it had a micro sd slot so you could put some stuff on it

Yep saw that video.

I'm good. I have all my stuff in GDrive/G+ as it is. Its my backup solution and soon to be only solution as I start buying Chromebooks this year.

I use Google format and default upload settings thus, I get infinite online storage that I can access from every device I own.

This will be awesome for me.

So this needs online access to work, like Xbox One was supposed to have? Shouldn't people be against this like they were with Microsoft's policies? Plus, this is probably a data mining device.

All of google's products essentially require online to be fully functional. Its not a game console where I buy retail discs. Everything is purchased online/digital copies.

Its Google, I'm sure its mining my data. Just like the entirity of the web.

A day later and a ton of quality information.

1) http://www.androidcentral.com/chromecast-setup-and-first-impressions
Very good walk through of the device. Seems extremely simple and easy to use. Also reaffirms that literally anything on the chrome browser is cast to TV with ease... including free Hulu.

2) http://www.droid-life.com/2013/07/25/tip-you-can-play-local-video-files-through-chromecast/
In fact, you can use your Chrome browser casting to allow you to play any media you have stored locally on your device. (probably to the extreme with Chromebooks where its technically only a browser)

So with this, you can say have movie files acquired from other places downloaded and play through TV. :)

Again... all from a $35 device that is only going to grow in capability.
