Forums - Sony - PlanetSide 2 On PS4 Is 'Basically PC Version On Max Settings'

Creative director on PlanetSide 2 believe the team will get the visuals of the PC version onto PS4.

Published on Jul 24, 2013

PlanetSide 2 is easily one of the best looking games on PC - even in spite of the incredibly tasking CPU/GPU strain - which makes us all the more excited for PlanetSide 2 on PS4.

But will Sony Online Entertainment be able to replicate those visuals on the limits of a console, albeit a fairly powerful one?

"Our plan right now is to basically take the PC game with maximum settings and have that be running on the PS4," confirmed Matt Higby, creative director on the game.

"So there won’t be any limitations in terms of number of players, there won’t be any limitations on the maps – so you aren’t going to get any dumbed down maps or anything like that."

The only change to the core gameplay of PlanetSide 2, says Higby, is its interface - which is the only mouse-heavy part of the game.

"The biggest difference that you’ll see is going to be interface elements," he said, "they’ll be customised to work better with a console controller and other tweaks that make things work on a console game."

"But there won’t be any core gameplay mechanic changes that make PlanetSide what it is. You’ll still have thousands of players per continents, all the vehicles and really deep character progression – all that stuff is going to remain intact."

SOE is targeting the PS4's launch window and is a free-to-play, large-scale MMOFPS, which means no one has an excuse to not play it whenever it does get released.

I thought that even the most powerful gaming rigs aren't able to run this game max settings and maintain a steady framerate.

Perhaps optimization and lack of a need for drivers (therefore no overhead) will play a part here.

...provided that max settings for Planetside 2 PC and the game on PS4 indeed look the same and this doesn't end up as just a target they're aiming at.

Doesn't seem like a difficult task. I'd definitely like to play this.

The key thing is that they're are aiming for that performance, they haven't said they've achieved it.

I wouldn't expect any less. There is no game out right now that has groundbreaking graphics. Any decent team should at the least match the best games on PC graphically. As the generation moves forward the PC will pull ahead, but PS4/XBO will make massive strides as well. I expect to play games at the max settings for a PC at 1080P/30fps for at least the first 2 years of this gen.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

You thought wrong.  A $500 PC could max this game out.  It's no surprise the PS4 can...

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

Idk BF3's latest map packs blow me away along with Metro: Last Light...

The first Planetside was one of a small handful of games I ever paid a subscription fee to play. Really looking forward to this.

I'm pretty sure PS4 can play any game out in PC in 1080p60 in Max settings.
