Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One To Release In Kinect-Less Bundle in 2014 - Rumor

IMO. It is more likely that Microsoft will make a version of the One without Blu Ray than without Kinect.

A Blu Ray may not be as expensive as a kinect but Microsoft will be able to reduce the price of the One in more than one way without it.
1) The Cost Blu Ray itself.
2) Royalties of the Blu Ray.
3) People with this version will not be able to buy used games then Microsoft can take a greater loss with it because it will result in a greater return on investment on average over years.

pretty sure preorders for both consoles will be sold out if they aren't yet.
I doubt a kinect less bundle will ever come out and I'm almost positive they won't have one for next year, for the reason you said and for the reasons other people pointed out such as, completely undermining the dedication of your fans and early adopters, completely cutting the grass under devlopers that expect the thing to be packed in.... cause real games for kinect will come later than 2014, 2016 IMO will be the sweet spot for good kinect 2 titles other than what already worked on XB360 kinect.
but preorders will not be the issue. I'm even starting to think MS is handeling it better than Sony. Cause if MS has less preorder kits availble than sony it doesn't mean they haven't just as much inventory capabilities. they might just chose to have a lower amount of preorder to avoid shortage right of the bat when they release and creating hype and getting customers that are not preordering (which are a majority of the gamers at the end) to buy a XBone because no more PS4 are avaiable during the holliday season.
all in all I do not believe kinect less bundel are something that will exist, because it would be better for them to just keep it bundled and cut the price anyway, and preorders won't be an issue either because they'll be either sold out or will surf on the holliday season momentum.

now that said if I'm completely wrong and MS sells 1k console until january things might change but I hardly see that happening

Yeah, you're right, I mispoke. Preorders will be fine, it's the rest of the holiday season that might be affected. *might*
Also, it is possible that MS does actually have 2-3x the inventory. Half the story. It's possible they have 2-3x the inventory *in USA*, which could only amount to 1-2 million more. So kind of a tradeoff most likely. And yes, I agree, preorders =| supply. MS potentially has longer supply, but lower initial preorder.

Don't know which strategy is better. Preorders will make good news, but being in stock during holiday when more expendable money is available could result in better revenue.

Heres another story 24million people bought the original Kinect, most are now unused getting dusty in a draw. I know more than 10 people that bought into Kinect and not one uses it anymore, and they wouldnt buy into it again, unless forced to like they are currently with XBOne.

If it was the future as you claim, there would be alot of love for it from the current owners and i just dont see any. The future is a cheaper mass market price and i hope MS see this.

Awe that's sad, they don't sound like fun people. But no I don't agree with you assumption that most don't use it.  Kinect Adventures the pack in with Kinect was as of last week still the 11th most purchased game title in North America!  It's still selling quite well, even with X1 and Kinect 2.0 just months away.

There are always people that can't adjust to the new advances in tech and society, they just shouldn't be allowed to hold the rest of us back.  There is a good word for that, just can't think of it at the moment.

Perhaps you should try for some new more fun friends?  Even the most die hard fans of other consoles have all gone 'Wow, neat, cool, can I try' when I show them Kinect.  I'd never want to play Skyrim without it.

This is what they all said when they got it, but like the Wii, like the PS Move, they tired of it quickly and went back to just wanting a pad.

And again as i said earlier the features you seem to be talking about and what MS ever talk about are all the voice features, you dont require $100+ camera for that, a cheap $5-10 mic array would do that and could easily be packed in and massivley reduce the price of the console.

If its so cheap and easy for a mic array, why has no other company made a device yet? Trust me I have been looking. There are some tv s with voice controls (i have heard the voice controls do not work well). Other than that what is there? Why hasnt roku, or some other tv streaming device come up with great voice controls like kinect? It hears me from any room in my house. It works great. I challenge you to find a device that is priced the same or cheaper than kinect, and will let me watch my media with voice. The xbox one will expand upon this to include even more media than I can currently watch by voice. Please link me some devices that can be used with my current tv. I am really seriously interested in them. They dont even need a camera, just functional voice commands, that work well, and is priced the same or less than an xbox with kinect or an xbox one. I see people sya its aeasy and cheap all the time, but I dont see the products that do it yet. where are they?

No ones really making Voice control TV this is a market i think MS will have cornered, all im saying is the expensive part of Kinect is all the camera work thats in it, the microphones that pick up your voice in it maybe better than alot of ones you can buy elsewhere but i bet its still a very small percentage of the cost of Kinect. The reason Kinect is so good at voice recognition is because of the amount of work MS has put into the software side, not because it has $100 dollars worth of video recording equipment on it.

Voice control is intersting, but not enough to me to pay for expensive Body tracking that i will never use as i neither really have the space or the interest in the type of games that use it.

yeap or they are actually completely fucking up which is a possibility. But looking at MS as whole, they better not, it's pretty much their entire business which is in transition, they really can't afford to fuck up their ecosystem this holiday season if they don't want to paddle behind for the next 24 months on every fronts... if they calculate it right they could hit big this holiday season or fail big otherwise.

But I really think if their is already a shortage in pre orders it's to at least have some more for around launch, because it is still pretty early to build a mass market buzz right now. gamescom and TGS are the 2 next big steps after that the marketing machine will be full gear and that's when you will need to have pre orders available and if possible inventory still shipping around launch to have your console in store after launch for at least a couple weeks if doable.

No no no! This will ruin the Xbox One.

I hope it is not true.

How on earth would a $150 price cut from a periperal 90% of early adopters dont want ruin anything.

Because it stops being a 100% included peripheral and devs will ignore it, pretty much like they do with current kinect. Those of use that like it want it to be included to push development forward. Sony made a mistake by removing the camera and unless it sells by the boatload it will get minimal support from 3rd parties, leading to lower sales because of lack of support which in turn leads to poor sales and so on and so on, ad infinitum.

3rd parties will just add the features from the X1 version to the PS4 version. Having the Kinect included with the X1 is actually going to dramatically increase the support for the PS4 camera without it having to be compulsory.

well I hardly see how they can do that since not only the Kinect and PSeye doesn't use the same tech and it doesn't use body tracking at all I believe ??? and what is the voice tracking capabilities of the eyetoy ???

porting Kinect input to the eyetoy/move must be as easy as adapting a laser printer cartridge on an inkjet IMO

If they get the price down to $350 the wii u is gone

Without order nothing can exist - without chaos nothing can evolve.

"I don't debate, I just give you that work"- Ji99saw

it would make perfect sense if true. I mean, why not give people more options?

Well, it does make some sense from a business perspective

- Sell the $500 Xbox this holiday to bring in the most revenue. During 2014 when sales slow down, you bring in this.
- This would be mainly for European markets which is far more competitive and price driven.
- Undercutting PS4 in price is key to maintain momentum.
- This will shut up the naysayers about the price and tin foil

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

CBOAT on GAF already laughed at this, so no chance in hell.
At least for now. Could be a long wrong strategy if XB1's don't sell much mid-late next year, but I'd believe an outright price cut of $50 or more (MS can afford to) would be a more sound strategy.

It's just that simple.
