- Building his brand very deliberately and carefully to be seen as "one of us" even whilst getting a million views per video, and yet unique/talented/attractive enough to get a personality following

I would think that everyone subscribed to him thinks there's someone else on Youtube they value more... but exactly who varies by person, and PewDiePie is a common denominator of agreed minimal value.

I'm Russian, and we are historically intolerant of Swedes Evidenced by the fact I can't take more than 30 sec of his high-pitched whine, rape jokes, and bad acting. Most of his "audience" are annoying schoolkids.
