Forums - Sony - Sony Announces “Various Hardware Sales Initiatives” for the PS Vita, Hint of a Price Drop?

Sony just posted its Annual report, and it gave a quick overview of the plans for the game division during this fiscal year. Interestingly enough it included an juicy tidbit of information on what the company plans to do with the PS Vita:

For PlayStation Vita, we aim to secure sales and profit growth through various hardware sales initiatives and the release of compelling software titles.

Of course the most prominent “hardware sale initiative” that comes to mind is a price cut, that already happened in Japan this February, but was repeatedly denied by SCE executives for the west. Gamescom (that will start on August the 21st) would be the perfect place to announce it. Sony announced a price cut for the PS3 in the same Venue in 2011, after all, and the timing is perfect to switch gear in sight of the holiday season.

That’s not the only possibility, as the company could enact a policy of aggressive bundling (maybe even the rumored bundle with the PS4) or temporary/retailer specific discounts.

One thing is pretty much for sure, the wording definitely implies that at some point during this fiscal year we’ll either pend less for a PS Vita or we’ll get more value with it. That’s quite obviously a positive thing.

I'll probably look to pick one up after I get a PS4... or before if their all sold out when I try to buy one :p

Even still I'd love to see a price drop

I will permaban myself if the game releases in 2014.

in reference to KH3 release date

PSO2 is most likely canceled so there is less reason to buy one. The only thing now is Freedom Wars.

wifi version on amazon.com is 249$. so let's say they drop the price to 199$ (and lower the memcard prices) a PS4 + vita bundle would be like 599$. as an incentive they'd need to add two vita games, one ps4 game and 3 months of ps plus. maybe something like this would work.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

all I want is some more exclusives by first party studios.....and not just another MonHun clone (I´m looking at you, Freedom Wars -.-*), the price is already pretty good (199 Euro for the Vita Mega pack with a 8gb memory card)
....Patapon 4 ? LocoRoco 3 ? Gravity Rush 2 ?

I just sold mine. If  they start to produce more games and drop the price of memory cards then I'll one day consider getting a PS Vita again.

The only hope it has is dropping the price of the memcards or releasing a firmware update that lets one use any third party card

What makes you say that? Just cause they are quiet doesnt mean they gave up on it.

Korean MMO's take years to make to the west, but end up launching with more content. Thats what im hoping happens with PSO2.

Well, if they can't meet their poor target then who knows.

Though I don't know if a price cut will even help right now. Maybe for a month or so, but not after that.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
