Like how it was cool to put cuss words in albums and if your album had that label on it, it was cool. If I was living in their world, in this game, I would slap any little kid that cussed. Game of Thrones style. There's no more laws anyways. Every time I heard her cuss, which was almost every 5 minutes, it made me cringe. That was my only main gripe about this game. Everything else I loved. If any of my nieces or nephews saw me playing this game and that little bitch kept cussing, they would do it too. They would think it's ok. |
I feel the same way. The game developers have a public duty to act responsibly. I know of no kids that are so profane. I wish I could smack her after every profanity.

| TheProphet said: Certainly the most coherent argument so far. However, do you think these characters affect society as role models? And do they aim for standards that are the best for society or the worst? |
They could affect our society, but creators can't censor themselves because of what some people might take away from their games/books/movies.
I don't think they aim for any standard, I think they're just telling a story. Some stories are about people rising to great heights in adversity, while others are about how the situation you're in can totally change you for the worse and what's nomal in this world would be reprehensible in our own comfortable lives, but without having ever been in a situation similar to Ellie and Joel it's impossible for any of us to say how we would act. Then again that's the point of a fictional story.
...
Ever seen Mad Max? That is a pretty good example or how society would behave like in a post apaocalypse world. I haven't played TLOU yet but from the gameplays I've seen, I think its fine. imo

| TheProphet said: 1. My beef is with the limited understanding of reality by the game developers. The young girl in the gamee, Ellie is obscene, and disrespectful of her elders. 2. And for somee reason, with next to no experience in life she is somehow endowed with a deeper understanding of life than Joel, the adult. 3. An adult female at the beginning of the game is extremely violent which is such an unrealistic portrayal of women. Do the game developers think that they are being 'progressive' by living in a delusion. What do you think? 4. Also, the game developers leave it up to Ellie, the young girl to decide whether there is a heaven or not. And of course she selfconfidentally says she doesn't think so. So according to the game deveelopers there is no point to life. Life is crap, we live and die, and that's it. 5. This is the shallowest, unthoughtful point of view that I can imagine. There is no rational reason to believe this point of view. And there is no reason given to support this nihilism. |
1. How does this portray a limited understanding of reality? A lot of girls in today's society are obscene and disrespectful to elders. I assume it might be much worse in a world with little food, and threats from the infected and hunters.
2. How does she have a deeper understanding of life?
3. This adult female is not trying to portray the typical female of today. Are you trying to imply that woman are incapable of being extremely violent, even though men are? That's sexist.
4. Ellie's beliefs are not the same as the creator's beliefs.
5. Can you prove that there is a heaven? If not, you have no reason to assert that disbelief in heaven is shallow, unthoughtful, or irrational.
I really don't see how developers are "stupid" for creating a fictional world and characters that are "delusional".
It's just the way the creators think people would behave if society collapsed like that. In their minds, if you don't become violent, you're dead already. You whole point of "women are not that violent, it's not logical", makes no sense really. You're comparing women you know in real life to a fictional woman on a completely destroyed world that no longer has laws, or even morality.
In the end, it's all about suspension of disbelief.

And I haven't played The Last of Us btw. I just feel as if you're looking for things to complaint about the game, it's non-sensical to complaint about this stuff you said.

I personally don't see any logic in your arguments.
and yes, we live and die. That's it.
| TheProphet said: Hey Angelus, thanks for the comment. i was hoping that the developers would show a little thoughfulness in their game. Sure life can be crap at time. But that has never stopped people from thinking intelligently about life. Even the Jews in Nazi Germany believed in a God. So it doesn't get much worse than they. They are not idiots. They realize there is suffering, but there is also a final cause, a primary beginnng, and a beginner - God. The game developers have no intellectual sophistication at all. |
I think the disconenct is equating intellectual sophistication with those that share your world view. If you think those that disagree with your view are "idiots" then you will struggle to gain empathy to how many people do think.
Many people who suffered throught the holocaust or other horrific events have reconsidered or left their various faiths. People have different reactions to such cruelty. I wouldn't forget that the perpetraitors of said offenses were overwhelmingly religious as well (catholic and lutheran most prominant).
It is easy to move that which we do not undertsnad in others as lacking in intellect. It is much harder to concede that their views are as well constructed as our own. That they simply come from different back ground and those experiences have shaped them to a unique, but equally complex and sophistacted view.

This is blatantly a joke thread. No one can be this illogical.
