An Xbox One developer recently was on an Ask me Anything on Reddit and while there isn’t a ton of stuff that we didn’t already know, there’s some pretty neat details regarding some of the UI stuff in the Xbox One.

A user asked about the snapping interface that allows you to multitask as you game. He responded saying it’s only available for certain apps but interesting he noted that game titles cannot be snapped. He later went into more detail on what that exactly meant below since we saw Killer Instinct snapped with Twitch during the Xbox One reveal.

Basically, AAA games cannot be snapped which sounds like games such as Ryse or Dead Rising 3. But you can snap Internet Explorer in case you want to look up an FAQ. Looks like you won’t be able to Skype your buddy while you stab people in the Roman empire.

Other cool tidbits include how inaudible it is and how everyone didn’t even know the Xbox One name until the reveal event internally. Check it out if you have the chance.

So the ps4 is superior? with suspended mode :P

That's a small bummer since that's one of the big features of the machine. Luckily they have a thing called a PC though.

I think he means thatbthe game cant be the small screen but other things can bevthe small screen but I have no idea

Very misleading title. When he says AAA titles cannot be snapped he is referring to the game being in the smaller view. All games allowing snapping.

"Yes, AAA titles cannot be snapped (shown in smaller view). IE can however be snapped to look up how to perform a combination while you play :)."

I think people are misunderstanding what the developer meant by this.

Someone should make one thread for the reddit AMA with the dev. I hope we don't get 10 threads with all the info he gave out.

I'm wondering the Xbox One will allow Skype as cross game chat or if it will be a separate function like the 360. Either one is fine for me but I do like Skype clarity on PC. Hopefully cross game chat on X1 will be just as clear.

Snapping isn't suspending.  On the One, you can have multiple games/apps onscreen at once, like calling up a browser to look up a FAQ while playing a game.  Games can't be the 'snapped' program, apparently, but you can snap other things while playing.

It's pretty much a physical impossibility to avoid this.  The One has 5gbs of ram available for games.  Let's say you're playing a game that needs 4 of them--it would defy physics for you to be able to just toss on another game that takes, say, another 2gbs and have it run them simultaneously.
