So much depends on the 3DS's lifespan. We're already just about two years in, and I see it at least needing another five to seriously catch up to the DS. Certainly possible, but around year three the Vita will start looking much more attractive.

Yes, I guess it is when compared to the DS. (For now, I still think it'll pick up a ton) What does that say for the gaming industry though? 3DS is triple the 2nd best selling system of the year... |
It says that in Japan matching a juggernaut like the DS will be close to impossible. It's not knocking the 3DSes performance per se (it's performing well for the market it's currently in) it's just highlighting what a phenomenon the DS was after the Lite/NSMBU/Nintendogs/Brain Training boom, and how different the market was for dedicated portables back then.

Have to agree with this. Look at the DS in 2006 and 2007. Nothing could EVER hope to come even remotely close to that kind of performance again. It was totally in a league of its own. I mean Jesus, it was regularly coming close to and breaking 200k a week without any major realeses.

I don't think that says the industry is in decline, if that's what you're meaning. 3DS is only triple because it's going against elderly consoles.

The only confirmed titles I can think of are Smash Bros, Yoshis New Island and Mario Golf. But there are a bunch that could possibly come out next year
Pokemon Z or Ruby/Saphire remake
Dragon Quest 11
Final Fantasy remake/spin-off
Kirby
Metroid
Kid Icarus sequel
Resident Evil Revelations 2
Advance Wars
Ice Climbers
Also im expecting a revision on the smaller model plus a $30 price cut so, 3DS Lite-$139 XL-$169. Obviously not all of this will happen, just a few possibilities. I doubt 3DS will pass DS in Japan but it could come close.

Yes but HH's are more popular than consoles there and DS is beating the 3DS & Vita combined as of now. (Still, it will change)
@NintendoPie No lol, 3DS isn't tripled them because they are "elderly" lol. PS4/XOne/WiiU/Vita don't stand a chance against 3DS period lol. Two of them are already taking an asskicking, the other two will take theirs when they release this holiday. Or do you seriously believe PS4/One really stand a chance?
