Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Dragon Quest X Could Get A Western Release

Dragon Quest X producer Yosuke Saito has explained that the game could be released here in the west. Saito said that if Dragon Quest X did come to North America, Europe and Australia then it would be changed slightly to suit western markets. Saito concluded by saying that they would need to divide the running of it by country or region. Therefore, they are thinking about having separate servers for each country.

”Of course, however, as for whether it’ll be run in the Dragon Quest style in the overseas market, every nation has its own play style and sensibilities, so I don’t think it’ll be a single game worldwide like with Final Fantasy 11.”

“This is just my personal viewpoint, but different countries consume their games at different speeds and the way the communities are run also differ. Even the way people enjoy seasonal events is different, so I think we need to divide the running of it by country or region. So we’re thinking about having separate servers for each country.”

It would be up to Nintendo in all likelihood. On the one hand, Nintendo needs what they can get for the Wii U. On the other, a resource-intensive MMO with niche appeal isn't going to really push Wii U's, and might not be worth the trouble

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think Nintendo should've brought it over to the West for a spring release given the drought they have going on right now and made it a free to play title.

Or maybe something that's like $39.99 to buy and then a $4 fee per month. Like an eShop exclusive.

Releasing the game with free online would be a great idea, similar to what happened with Tri.

Doubt it though, sadly.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Only way I see this released on a Nintendo console internationally would be if Nintendo did the publishing like they have with almost every other Dragon Quest title since VIII.

Square Enix is probably going thinking of just releasing the PC version although really, given it was a rushed MMORPG they only did to upheld their promise of DQX on the Wii and make up money they lost with the initial failed release of FFXIV. No way, are they putting that much effort behind any DQ release especially given the state of affairs with both the Wii and Wii U.

I was hoping for the Wii version - highly unlikely at best - but you are probably right that it'd just be the PC version since vertually all PCs are online whereas Wii and WiiU have low online useage.
