Forums - Sales - The Last of Us Sales Exceeds 3.4 Million Units Worldwide

I like this is getting sales, but how can it be the fasting selling title in PS3 history? It can be faster selling that Call of Duty surely?

Unless they mean PS3 exclusive??

N. E. W. I. P.

I predict the game will reach 6 million by the end of the year.

shipped numbers dont give an indication of "expected" numbers, they show how strong the demand from consumers is. sonys expectations has nothing to do with the shipped number, its the retailers who order these copies due to demand. something you been saying for a long while when it came to the xbox 360 shipment numbers. its funny how things change with you when its about sony. sony ships on expecation, microsoft ships on demand. makes perfect sense.

Good grief

"market expectation"... i.e. retailer demand. where the hell do i mention sony expectation?

it really isnt that hard.

This forum is a joke.   If I had said "thats surprising" then a dozen of you wouild have been all over me saying "what!!?? it isnt surprising, they are awesome, the game is awesome... hater!!!"

As I have already said.  The "not surprising" comment was a compliment. In that I am "not surprised " given the developer and the critical response.

Savvy?

you are arguing about the suprised comment to the wrong person, as i didnt even comment on that.

Pretty amusing reading the two "shipped" comments in here.  I thought by now it was common knowledge that that's how it was counted.  I mean, it's exactly what Square Enix did with Tomb Raider but I don't remember there being an uproar of "Omg it's shipped + downloads!!!" about that.

Which brings me to the point I came here to make.  The figure for TLOU is exactly the same as Tomb Raider.  Yet, one is being touted as this massive success while the other is a game that succeeded but sold well below expectations.  Just goes to show how out of touch Square Enix were with that game.

And of course, massive congrats to the game, Naughty Dog & Sony.  Another strong IP to add to the roster.  And proof that a new IP this late into the gen can still be a big success.

Well it is worthwhile clarifying regualrly.  For instance, it is clear you need help in differentiating given your statement here.

Shipped the same amount? yes.  Sold throught the same amount? who knows?

If I start a thread in the future saying halo5 sold 8m week one, I am pretty sure there would be half a dozen "shipped" statements within 2 minutes.

Shipment numbers are interesting as it gives an indication of market expectation, but thats all.  It may take a week, a month or a year to sell and intial shipment.

...and who said "OMG its shipped + downloads!!!"?  Nobody.   Mods should be keeping the peace not stoking the fire.

That would be odd for you of all people to do that. I would fully expect you to have corrected the very same article you posted by saying Its "shipped" and not "sold"

wow barely a month and already about to beat 90% of those sales predictions for all of 2013

Surprising though how this number isn't surprising huh?

What I'm most surprised about is how few copies it's selling. There haven't been any big games released lately, and summer is one of those times of the year where the oppressive heat begs people to stay indoors and game near a fan/Air conditioning. Also, these numbers were likely minutes after shipping out another wave of copies, so it'll be quite a long time, possibly a year or two, until these shipped numbers become sell-through. Also, it has an online pass, which means Sony fans are hypocrites. And they smell bad too. Let's see, any other spin I can milk out of this game?

Hmmm, yes it's doing well, but it hasn't pushed any ps3 sales.....proof that the dedicated graphics console is on its way out.
Better scores than 99% of games, but yet can't outsell a lot of them....guess Sony fans really do only hype their exclusives without purchasing them.
Yeah, Naughty Dog did a great job, but what, it took them 7 years to put out a big hitter? Halo 3 was pushing boundaries 6 years ago.
Poor AI, predictable plot, mind-bendingly short, it's a wonder that ps gamers call themselves "the hardcore". Mostly casuals buying this up.
Includes digital sales? Well, if ps store was more robust (Like XBL) I'd say that's great, but I doubt Sony can handle uploading even 100k copies over their meager infrastructure. They had better pull it together next gen if they think they can compete with 300k servers.

What!?!?

Where do YOU live? Lol

Nobody stays in during the summer

Everybody is at the beach or out doing something during the summer

Hopefully no one has posted this yet as I would like the honor...

Great context, Mr. Hirai!

I would, becasue I wouldnt say it.. you kinda missed the point.

Nah you missed my point

If you did what you said in that post then people would most definitely correct you simply because it is YOU(the guy who is sure to correct Sony when they are talking about shipped numbers)
