Forums - Gaming - Anyone else plan their gaming schedule so that they don't get burned on playing a genre?

For example, since I'm getting WWHD in Oct, I am not getting the 3DS Zelda in Nov until far later (quitting the oracle games if I don't finish by early Sept) , not trying to 100% Xenoblade until I finish with Tales of Vesperia, and planning to push back my PS3 purchase with Xillia 1 and 2 because of too many other JRPGs in 2014.

Might just be me being paranoid, but since I like to play my games 1 at a time, (I juggle Animal Crossing, that thing's a palette cleanser) I worry about say playing Pokemon and then Bravely Default back to back and then not being able to go back to turn-based JRPGs or trying a Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 and swearing off of other platformers.

Anyone else have similar tendencies in regards to planning a schedule?

I don't really plan my gaming schedule, most of the time I don't even plan what games I get, they're mainly impulse buys.

No I don't plan. I just get whatever game I deem enough interest.

Not really, I don't think it's really necessary for me. There's usually enough variation in the games I normally buy; I don't typically find myself saying, "oh, I just bought 5 platformers in a row!" because in between those games will be a shooter, an RPG, and probably something else entirely that I will have picked up.

I actually do to an extent. I'm usually playing a few games at once from different genres so if I need a break from one I can just move to a different game for a bit.

I do this all the time. I can't play rpgs back to back. I usually than go for something not as time consuming such as a shooter or something to that extent. I also do this after playing Zelda. After playing a Zelda game, I like playing simpler games of for a while. I also do the opposite. After playing action games, I usually play something that requires more thought than reflexes.

I get burned out sometimes on particular games but not really genres, although I've found I'm peculiar in my gaming habits - I replay the same 10 games or so at least once every year and can play several games in the same franchise and/or genre in a row with no problem.

For instance in anticipation of Fire Emblem: Awakening releasing I played Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones (on the 3DS VC) and Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn (on Wii) and XCOM: Enemy Unknown (kinda the same genre) on the PS3 (which I'm actually replaying now) - those were just in Jan/Feb.

Right now I'm replaying the Pokemon games in anticipation of Pokemon X/Y (did Yellow, now doing Crystal, then I'm gonna do Emerald, and Platinum and maybe White 2).

I also plan to replay at least Zelda: A Link to the Past before A Link Between Worlds, not sure if I want to do WW HD, might get it and play it just before the real HD Zelda comes out).

I also planned to try to play the first 9 Final Fantasy games this summer but haven't really had time and just spent my vacation playing Pokemon so that'll probably have to wait until next year (that's quite a time sink) The Fall/Winter is when I usually play newer games - already plan on 1st day purchases of Wonderful 101, AC IV, Watch Dogs, Pokemon X, Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (that's quite a few for me).

I do the same thing with movies, tv shows (watch entire runs of 7-10 season tv shows over the course of a few weeks), books (recently reread all the Ender's Game/Shadow books when I heard about the movie coming out), etc. as well.
