think its fair to a point, 2d Mario is the biggest gaming franchise, thats just money. It was never for the core gamer but to try to get everyone on board didnt work. I agree with everything else.

What game was going to do it? Serious question, i know Zombi U wasnt really, but what could they have made?

Its not a fair point, look at the price and list of games on other consoles that had NSMB

DS-$129, first original 2D Mario in about 15 years. Other key games Mario 64 DS, Brain Training, Nintendogs, Kirby, Yoshi, WarioWare, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart

Wii-$199, first console 2D Mario since SNES and first with simultaneous multiplayer. Other key games, Wii Sports/Fit/Play, Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing.

3DS-$169/199, also had Mario 3D Land, Ocarina of Time 3D, Nintendogs, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus, Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil, Star Fox 64

Wii U-$299/349 also has Nintendo Land, ZombiU, Lego City

As u can see 2D Mario isnt a system seller in and of itself but at the right price with a handful of other key titles it sells huge.

Tell that to the original Super Mario bros. for NES and World for SNES hell i would argue that Mario 64 moved...64s

Im talking about in recent times, ur talking about something comletely different. Those games are nearing 25-30 years old in the 2D era. All my examples are within 7 years and in the 3D era. Plus those consoles were also $200 and had other decent games to go along with them.

I was simply pointing out that Mario at one time WAS a system seller. It was the game to get, much like WIi Sports was the game to get for WIi, even though it was bundled. Now that is not the case any longer which Ninty seems to be finding out the hard way, so far enough.

I think it still is at the right price and with some solid titles to support it. I cant think of a single game that will push a ton of consoles on its own at $350.

ok, fair enough. We'll just have to see if pulls a 3DS or says screw it.

You can't make a new IP exclusive to a Nintendo system and expect it to sell well.

Just Dance, Deca Sports, Carnival Games, all say hi

Lol eww

what? werent they new IPs on Ninty systems?

it's an unfortunate list of IPs is what I meant

But thats the whole point, those are the types of games that do best on Ninty consoles, now whether that is unfortunate or not, is up to the individual, personally I dont think that. Those games have their markets and those people who like those should be serviced and they were. Im getting more than enough games i want to play on other platforms. Plus some of those cheap games fund the bigger budget ones.

I was only expressing my distate in that list of IPs I saw and have zero investment in the conversation within which it was made :P

fair enough, not a fan of those myself. I was just pointing out where you CAN make a new IP and it be successful.

They have must have given it too big a budget, because it reeks of being a rushed mess and got sales and reviews that are more favourable than it deserved. It's their own fault that a launch title wasn't profitable.
