I missed the part where things got better for the Vita.

It has a pulse now.

Although overall sales aren't impressive, they are now sustainable in Japan, which is a fairly big step forward for the Vita.

It is no longer the worst selling piece of gaming hardware.

I'm pretty sure it hasn't been since basically when it launched.

The Vita has a lot of good potential. It's just not going to get there fast. Yes, the 3DS is making circles around it, but the 3DS is also likely to have a shorter console cycle.

But in the long run, titles and sales are only part of the battle. Sony has to drop their proprietary memory prices to market SD card values to compete.

The PSP was an amazing bit of hardware, but it was always limited by how expensive the memory was. Digital download games are upwards of 25% more expensive on PSN than for UMD forms once you factor the expensive memory card into the equation. Using the PSP as a video player? Doesn't matter that you can if you can't afford a memory card big enough to put anything on it.

(of course the real reason Sony did this was piracy. Doesn't matter if you pirate the game: you still need the memory stick. The developer gets the shaft, but Sony does well enough.)

Wait are you telling me the vita is still clinging on to life? Wow!

Maybe when Sony drops the price of the Vita and its memory cards. We will get more than just a pulse.

I hope the #jrpgvita by Shahid comes to fruition in the future. The titles voted there would surely help.

When the price drops the vita will start selling decent.

Vita has no Gaemz!

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Oh Spurge.

It's going to be a painful holiday season for Vita on all fronts. While it may do 'alright' in Japan (whenever a new game has released it has shot up; so since there's a bit of a stream, we might see it stabilised for a while). But then everything it's up against will just be selling better. Nintendo consoles traditionally sell better over the holidays anyway - and 3DS has the two biggest guns since about 2011 in Japan; and Wii-U actually has some games for over the holidays. If PS3 gets a much needed price cut too, then...

West is a different story. Short of slashing £100+ off the price and £40+ off the memory cards, I can't see many units being shifted. A smaller price cut would provide a bump, and a bit of advertising alongside Killzone/Batman/Tearaway may help, but other than that it'll be a wash. And I think Sony are content with Vita being a PSP-from-2009-onwards-without-the-piracy if their recent actions are anything to judge by.
