Forums - Sony - First Impressions: Could the PS4 Controller Be Gaming's Greatest Ever Input Device?

This idea that one controller can be "the best" overall has to stop. Modern controllers based on the Dualshock design are great for shooters, action and action/adventure games, RPGs, 3D platformers, hell even sports games.

But if you're playing Pac-Man or Galaga, the Dualshock is a horrible controller, and THIS:

is still the king.

Likewise, the Dualshock is not recommended for fighting games when the alternative is something along these lines:

or even this:

There is no "one controller to rule them all." Many different controllers -- not all of course, some are just awful -- have equal merit depending on what you're playing. The Dualshock is not and never will be the be-all-end-all of gaming input devices, nor will any other single controller design.

And you and every Sony fan on this site thinks Sony is a God. What is your point? Xbox controller stick placement is superior. Get over it. Sony still uses 90s ergonomic designs for controllers.

this has to be one of the most stupid comments i've seen in a while. I didn't know human hands were different back then, lol!

have you herd of research? It doesn't just stop once we find an asnwer, we try to verify that answer and adjust accordining from new information we find. What we knew in the 90s may be old information on what hand positioning is optimum.

In the end all these two side arguments are nothing more than console fans arguining for their favourite brand nothing more nothing less.

I also belive that real gamers dont whinge about controllers and adapt to the one they playing with. I have never felt like FUCK THIS SHIT I can't play a game with this controller.

Spoiler Alert

It is

'Is it the best input device'
Goes on to talk about the rumble feature.....

makes sense.

So one non-Microsoft console and another console that isn't even going to break a million units? Trying to claim the Wii has offset analogues is just desperate.

Also, you're forgetting:

Nintendo completely changed their mind between the Wii Pro and Wii U Pro controller.

I much prefer the Wii Pro controller, as I already said you can use the stick while, with the same hand, pressing the face buttons or pad in some cases.

I remember doing that with the gamecube controller with Rogue leader, using the right stick (moving the first person camera) and pressing the face buttons (shooting the ennemies) simultaneously.

Meh, unlikely.

Let's just say I don't buy PlayStations for the controller. It sucks, to be blunt. Sticks are too 'floppy' and too imprecise, buttons too 'mushy', it's too small and too light (and I don't even have big hands) and I agree with the people saying the sticks are in the wrong place. To me, the N64 controller is still the best one ever made, though I must say the 360 makes a good case. I haven't used that one a lot though, but I'm glad Nintendo took that path of controller evolution with the design of the WiiU's controller.

That said, I'm excited by the fact that Sony finally did something to the archaic DualShock. I can't be worse, and it definitely looks like it'll be better, so that's good enough for me.

all those grannies with their glass balls seeing into the future are hilarious yet annoying....

I can't believe the people that call themselves gamers .... Pick a controller as the best just because it has symmetrical or asymmetrical sticks ... It's not even an issue , it's a preference , let's keep it at that....

Look at the source lol. So I'll just say NO

http://www.explosion.com/38061/warframe-dev-praises-ps4-tech-says-dualshock-4-is-best-controller-yet/

Another source that feels that way too

Can we get an unbias source that has used both controllers.  If you go by the Eurogamer review of the controllers both do things that the other does not and it appears both offer what gamers want, fast response and a nice feel.  It looks like this gen, it will be based on personal preference as it always has been.  What I took from the eurogamer review is that MS made enhancements to the 360 controller and lost none of its feel, while Sony made ehancements all around which increase its feel from the Dualshock.

I'm one (though I prefer the DualShock 3 for most game types on consoles).

Besides, finding and implementing the driver on PC for a PlayStation controller is Hell-and-a-half!

http://www.motioninjoy.com/

Takes a few seconds now

For it to work on most games you have to select the 360 controller profile and voila! A DS3 playing Mortal Kombat on PC.

That's the one I used, but still had trouble with games like PURE that just seemed to prefer a 360 pad

I always just set it to X360 controller mode, since most PC games have that properly implemented.
