Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS PLUS - RUNS OUT - STILL PLAY GAMES? Question

Valid points? I'm not going to argue with you.  I don't know Sony's official postion on the issue nor do I know how publishers feel about it and neither do you. Until Sony comfirms what the purpose of gaikai is, your guesses are no more reasonable than mine- I could just as easily say, I see no valid points made by this response. :)

My response was an explanation of why its unlikely we'll have access to our download history on Gaikai and its valid. You on the other were just sharing wishful thinking.

Look at the PS1 classics for example. It took time for Sony to work with the publishers to get those cheap games on Vita. Yet numerous PS1 classics still aren't available for Vita. Once again, it falls on the publishers if those games will be available on future platforms.

Here's a great example. Sony has actually a PS2 software emulator that could let us play most of our PS2 discs on the PS3. But they don't give to us, instead they expect us to buy PS2 games from the PSN store. Sony could let us use our old discs, but they prefer we spend money at the PSN store.

As if none of the playstations have ever had backwards compatibility. If gaikai allowed the ps4 to stream ps3 games (probably for a fee)- I don't see why it would be outrageous to think that it might be able to stream games I've already paid for and own on a ps3. How is that any different from being able to play ps1 games you already paid for on ps2 or playing ps2 games you paid for on the early ps3's and xbox titles on the 360?

I don't actually own a vita, but I heard that you could download the digital titles you might have bought for the psp to the ps vita for free- and that was after sony removed ps2 compatibility from the ps3. It's really not that unreasonable to think they would do the same for the playstation home consoles (though I would think gaikai would need a small fee).

It doesn't matter if past Playstation consoles had backwards compatibility. That is completely different from taking your digital purchases to another console.

Can you play all digital PSP purchases on the Vita? Nope. Can you play all PS1 classics on Vita? Nope. Furthermore, how console

Perhaps some publishers will allow users to access some of their purchases on Gaikai. Its highly unlikely you'll get access to all your downloads. Publishers aren't likely to agree to that.

What will happen to ps+ in the next years with PS3? I mean at some time the support for PS3 will fade so new games that get added will also fade out or it will only get old and/or crappy games but if you quit ps+ your games will also disappear. I think at some point it won't be worth the money but you have to pay to keep the games.
Are there any details how Sony will solve this?

By it being one sub for all platforms, they will decrease the number of PS3 games and increase the number of PS4 ones or Vita ones if it magically becomes popular.

I know but what if you don't want to buy a PS4? Or a Vita (not that unprobably...)? The value for PS3 will decrease while the amount of money you have to spend will not decrease.

Yeah PS+ is clearly insentivising people to upgrade, because it lets you add these other platforms games to your collection even if you dont own the platform, ive seen it happen with the vita, this last 3 months 4 people in my office have bought a vita, soley on the fact that they owned like 20 games to play on it.

PS+ is a very clever marketing tool, as long as you have a sub because you own just one of there platforms it massivley increases the value of the other consoles to you over time even if you dont own them, making the decision to buy another one much easier in the future. If MS dont copy this stratgey with live i feel it will hurt them big, the more time goes on.

Why do you keep mentioning buying games? I'm talking about Instant Game Collection games, that you get for free with Plus.

It all goes into your download history. Its all treated as a transaction.

Again you misunderstand. I was talking about the PS Plus games, since this thread is obviously about Plus.

All the same, they go in your collection as a digital purchase. But some go away if you miss a payment.
