When I say advertising I do not mean straight out in your face advertising by stopping game play for a 30 second add, or covering your log in screen, or even plastering your screen with an ad during load screens.

What I mean is say you have an online game like burnout paradise, or one like All Points Bulletin (online Grand theft auto) but a little more...refined. Advertisers could simply put ads in forms of media that we naturally see everyday. Billboards, posters on the sides of bus stops or walls, light up figures like we see in time square. Business could put shops up either for simple advertising purposes or dedicate some more cash for gamers so they can buy in game clothing of said company (using game currency not real life money) kinda like we do with Saints Row. If your customizing your car and it's in depth you can have real life car parts available to you to up car stats making your brand better known. Car companies can have their vehicles available showcasing new cars.

IF you think about it Mass Effect on the citael had constant ads going, although for fake products, and although that was a bit on the extreme side with audio as you walk by, it shows it's possible to do it in a way that doesn't hinder gameplay.

Since the game would be online, it can constantly update with new ads and new things available making it so that it has some constant revenue. Some of the ideas listed were just some possibilities. I'd like to hear some more, especially some that both benefit both the player and the business.

I thought about this as well when rumors about a new video game console by google were brought up. Spotify made free music possible/legal thanks to advertisements, so I don't see why the same can't be done with video games. I mean, surely advertisement revenues will easily surpass $60 per copy?

Heck, merely bringing the price down a bit through this method would be great.

I agree i think that advertise can more then compensate the price it would be for us to buy a game one off. IT would be very interesting to see and would make the world feel very beleivable as well.

Hell fast food restaurants can do like GTA games do. Walk in and buy something and get your health replenished. Walk in to Burger King or whoever wants to advertise there restaurant in there.

I think so, though it might require thinking outside the box a little bit.

I've always felt that product placement is a great idea. Scott Pilgrim vs the World was made via product placement.

Maybe, it could happen in the future.

It's perfect. For me to know which games to avoid.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I don't think the revenue would be high enough unless they increase the concentration of ads, and I'm sure the people look at the data to see if it's working.

I honestly doubt you can fund an entire game just by that. I personally don't mind real life ads in a game as long as it fits the game world. Example seeing an ad for a car brand in Gran Turismo or Forza is fine, but having something like a McDonalds ad in either game is just weird.

Or for example having a McDonalds ad in a GTA game to make the world feel more alive and to make it feel as real as possible.

But yeah, as for being able to fund an entire game with ads I guess would depend on what type of budget the game has. However I still think even with a low budget, it's highly unlikely.
